Cajal Institute
The Cajal Institute in Madrid is the largest neuroscience research center in Spain. The histologist Santiago Ramón y Cajal founded the Laboratorio de Investigaciones Biológicas in 1902 which later became the Instituto Cajal (Cajal Institute) upon his retirement in 1922. The scientific activities of the institute follow a multidisciplinary approach and focus on fundamental questions of the structure and function of the nervous system.
Madrid Atocha railway station
Madrid Atocha (Spanish: Estación de Madrid Atocha, also named Madrid Puerta de Atocha) is the largest railway station in Madrid. It is the primary station serving commuter trains, intercity and regional trains from the south, and the AVE high speed trains from Barcelona, Saragosse, Seville and Valencia. These train services are run by the Spanish national rail company, Renfe.
2004 Madrid train bombings
The Madrid train bombings (also known in Spain as 11-M) were nearly simultaneous, coordinated bombings against the Cercanías commuter train system of Madrid, Spain on the morning of 11 March 2004 – three days before Spain's general elections. The explosions killed 191 people and wounded 1,800. The official investigation by the Spanish judiciary found that the attacks were directed by an al-Qaeda-inspired terrorist cell, although no direct al-Qaeda participation has been established.
Buen Retiro park
The Buen Retiro Park (Jardines del Buen Retiro or Parque del Buen Retiro, literally "Gardens" or "Park of the Pleasant Retreat," or simply El Retiro) is the one of the largest parks of the city of Madrid, Spain. The park belonged to the Spanish Monarchy until the late 19th century, when it became a public park.
Forest of Remembrance
The Forest of Remembrance (Spanish: Bosque del Recuerdo), formerly known as the Forest of the Departed (Bosque de los Ausentes), is a memorial garden located in the park of El Retiro in Madrid, Spain that commemorates the 191 civilian victims of the 2004 Madrid train bombings and the special forces agent who died in the attacks on 11 March 2004. The seven suicide bombers subsequently killed themselves on 3 April 2004 while under siege by security forces in their apartment block.

Torrespaña (literally "Spain Tower") is a 231 m steel-and-concrete television tower located in Madrid, Spain. National terrestrial television channels RTVE, Telecinco and Antena 3, as well as the autonomic channel Telemadrid, along with a few radio stations, broadcast from the tower. The tower was built in 1982, commemorating the FIFA World Cup celebrated in Spain that year.
Puerta de Alcalá
The Puerta de Alcalá ("Alcalá Gate") is a Neo-classical monument in the Plaza de la Independencia ("Independence Square") in Madrid, Spain. It stands near the city center and several meters away from the main entrance to the Parque del Buen Retiro. The square is bisected by Alcalá Street, although the street itself doesn't cross through the monument, and it is the origin of the Alfonso XII, Serrano and Olózaga streets.

Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid
Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid is an indoor sporting arena located in the City of Madrid, Spain. Its capacity is 15,000 people for basketball matches, 14,000 for handball matches and 18,000 for concerts (with standing public ramp). The former building, which was built in 1960, was destroyed by a fire in 2001. Architects Enrique Hermoso and Paloma Huidobro projected a High-Tech style new arena that was built at the same place between 2002 and 2005.

Atocha station memorial
The Atocha station memorial is a memorial monument located at Atocha station in Madrid, Spain, that commemorates the 191 victims of the 11 March 2004 Madrid train bombings and the special forces agent who died when seven suicide bombers blew themselves up on 3 April 2004. The 11 m tall (36 ft) cylinder stands above Atocha station, the destination of the four trains that were attacked.

Spanish National Observatory
The Spanish National Observatory is an astronomical observatory with several facilities in the Madrid area. The historic building in the Parque del Buen Retiro was built in 1790 as the Royal Observatory. Equipped with a Hershel telescope, it took over the purely astronomical work of the naval observatory, the Real Instituto y Observatorio de la Armada, in the south of the country.
Buen Retiro Palace
Buen Retiro Palace in Madrid was a large palace complex designed by the architect Alonso Carbonell (c. 1590–1660) and built on the orders of Philip IV of Spain as a secondary residence and place of recreation (hence its name). It was built in what was then the eastern limits of the city of Madrid. Today what little remains of its buildings and gardens forms the Retiro Park.
San Jerónimo el Real
San Jerónimo el Real (St. Jerome Royal Church) is a Roman Catholic church from the early 16th-century in central Madrid. The church, which has undergone numerous remodelings and restorations over the centuries is the remaining structure of the Hieronymite monastery that once stood beside the royal palace of Buen Retiro, of which a portion now serves as the Prado museum.

Basilica of Nuestra Señora de Atocha
The Royal Basilica of Our Lady of Atocha or Real Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Atocha is a large church in central Madrid on the avenue of the Ciudad de Barcelona, #3. It is one of the three basilica churches in Madrid, alongside the Our Father Jesús de Medinaceli and San Francisco el Grande. The buildings on the site have a long history. The original name refers to a lost icon from a chapel which was found among some high grasses, (called Tocha) during the time of the Reconquista.

The Escuelas Aguirre (Aguirre School) is a notable Neo-Mudéjar style building, located at Calle de Alcalá, 62, Madrid, Spain. It is named after Lucas Aguirre, a Spanish philanthropist who left funds for the construction of schools. Since 2006 it has housed the Casa Árabe e Instituto Internacional de Estudios Árabes y del Mundo Musulmán. This Neo-Mudéjar style building was designed by Emilio Rodríguez Ayuso and built from 1881-1886.

Palacio de Cristal
The Palacio de Cristal ("Crystal Palace") is a glass and metal structure located in Madrid's Buen Retiro Park. It was built in 1887 to exhibit flora and fauna from the Philippines. The architect was Ricardo Velázquez Bosco. The Palacio de Cristal, in the shape of a Greek cross, is made almost entirely of glass set in an iron framework on a brick base, which is decorated with ceramics. Its cupola makes the structure over 22 metres high.

Monument to Alfonso XII
The Monument to King Alfonso XII is located in Buen Retiro Park (El Retiro), Madrid, Spain. The monument is situated on the east edge of an artificial lake near the center of the park. In 1902, a national contest was held to design a monument for King Alfonso XII at the initiative of the Queen Mother Maria Christina of Austria.

The Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas (National Museum of Decorative Arts; originally, "National Museum of Industrial Arts") is located at 12 Montalbán Street, in Madrid, Spain, to the south of the Puerta de Alcalá and the western side of the Buen Retiro Park. It is one of the oldest museums in the city, situated within the Golden Triangle of Art.
