Mont Alto Arboretum
The Mont Alto Arboretum is an arboretum located on the Mont Alto campus of the Pennsylvania State University. The arboretum was established on Arbor Day in 1905, just two years after the founding of the Pennsylvania State Forestry Academy in Mont Alto. According to the college, on that day students searched for native tree species not present on campus, and brought back more than 400 specimens. These original plantings were then augmented by seeds from other trees native to the United States.

Nittany Lion Shrine
The Nittany Lion Shrine at Pennsylvania State University was dedicated on October 24, 1942 during Homecoming. Animalier Heinz Warneke and stonecutter Joseph Garatti created it from a 13-ton block of Indiana Limestone. The shrine was chosen from six models submitted by Warneke. The shrine is a gift of the class of 1940 and rests in a natural setting of trees near Recreation Building.
