Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola
Verbano-Cusio-Ossola is the northernmost province in the Italian region of Piedmont. It was created in 1996 through the fusion of three distinct regions which had previously been part of the Province of Novara. The area flanking the western shore of Verbano (or Lago Maggiore) forms the eastern part of the province; Cusio (or Lago d’Orta) and its environs form the southern part; while the north and east of the province consists of the Ossola, a region of Alpine mountains and valleys.
Borromean Islands
The Borromean Islands (It. Isole Borromee) are a group of three small islands and two islets in the Italian part of Lago Maggiore, located in the western arm of the lake, between Verbania to the north and Stresa to the south. Together totalling just 50 acres (20 hectares) in area, they are a major local tourist attraction for their picturesque setting.
Isola Bella (Lago Maggiore)
Isola Bella (lit. 'beautiful island') is one of the Borromean Islands of Lago Maggiore in north Italy. The island is situated in the Borromean Gulf 400 metres from the lakeside town of Stresa. Isola Bella is 320 metres long by 400 metres wide and is entirely occupied by the Palace and its Italianate garden.
Isola dei Pescatori
Isola dei Pescatori (lit. Fishermen’s Island) is an island of Lago Maggiore in northern Italy. As the most northerly of the three principal Borromean Islands it is also known as Isola Superiore and, with a population of 32, it is the only one to be inhabited all year round. Unlike Isola Bella and Isola Madre, the island no longer belongs to the Borromeo. The island is about 375 metres long by 100 metres wide.
Canale Villoresi
Canale Villoresi is a canal in Italy; it was the brainchild of Lombardy engineer Eugenio Villoresi. It originates from the River Ticino near the village of Somma Lombardo, and runs eastwards for 86 km to the Adda River. Construction began in 1877, but Villoresi himself died two years later. The works were completed in 1890 by a consortium. Irrigation was the canal's main reason for being but the addition of locks enabled cargoes of sand to be carried along it.
Toce
The Toce is a river in Piedmont, Italy, which stretches the length of the Val d'Ossola from the Swiss border to Lake Maggiore into which it debouches near Fondotoce in the Commune of Verbania. The river is 83,6 kilometres in length and is formed in the upper Val Formazza by the confluence of a number of torrents in the plain of Riale.
Isola Madre
Isola Madre, at 220 m wide and 330 m long, is the largest island of the Isole Borromee archipelago which falls within the Italian part of the Alpine Lake Maggiore, in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, Piedmont. The island is occupied by a number of buildings and architectural structures and is especially well known for its gardens. In the past it was known as Isola di San Vittore and later as Isola Maggiore.
Boesio
The Boesio is a ‘torrent’—or intermittent stream—of the province of Varese in north Italy’s Lombardy. It rises near Cuveglio and runs through the Valcuvia valley in an east-west direction before entering Lake Maggiore at Laveno-Mombello. The river’s course takes it through the communes of Cuveglio, Cuvio, Casalzuigno, Azzio, Brenta, Gemonio, Cittiglio and Laveno-Mombello. The state road SS 394 follows in part the course of the river.
Isolino di San Giovanni
The Isolino di San Giovanni is a small island belonging to the Borromean group of Lake Maggiore, one of the main subalpine lakes of northern Italy. It is situated some way to the north of the others in the group, 30 metres west of the shoreline of Pallanza, a frazione of Verbania. It is part of the frazione Pallanza.
Isolino Partegora
Isolino Partegora (known locally as Isulin) is an islet situated at the centre of the gulf of Angera on Lago Maggiore, the only island on the lake to fall within the Italian region Lombardy. Most of the shoreline consists of marshy cane thickets, although there is a sandy beach at the southern edge of the island. The islet is about 96 by 36 m in size, with an area of roughly 3500 square metres.
Giardini Botanici dell'Isola Madre
The Giardini Botanici dell'Isola Madre (8 hectares) are historic botanical gardens located on the grounds of Isola Madre in the Borromean Islands of Lake Maggiore, accessible by ferry from Stresa, Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont, Italy. They are open daily in the warmer months; an admission fee is charged. The gardens extend in seven terraces across the small island of Isola Madre, originally inhabited by Count Lancillotto Borromeo in the early sixteenth century.

The Giardini Botanici Villa Taranto (16 hectares) are botanical gardens located on the western shore of Lake Maggiore in Pallanza, Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Italy. They are open daily; an admission fee is charged.
San Bernardino (torrent)
The San Bernardino is a torrent which flows through the Italian Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and into Lake Maggiore at Verbania on the Piedmontese (western) shore of the lake. The origins of its name lie with the Franciscan convent of San Bernardino which was established in 1483 near the mouth of the river, between Intra and Pallanza. The buildings are no longer extant.

Varese Lake (Italian: Lago di Varese) is a lake of glacial origin in Lombardy, in the north of Italy. It has an area of 14.5 km², a medium depth of 11 m, and a maximum depth of 23 m.

Strona (river)
The Strona is a mountain torrent in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, northern Italy, a tributary of the Toce. It rises on Monte Capezzone at an elevation of 2,421 m and runs through the Valle Strona before entering the Toce. At Omegna it is joined by the Nigoglia, the outlet of Lago d’Orta.

Malpensa Aeroporto railway station
Malpensa Aeroporto railway station, or Malpensa Airport railway station, is located in the Terminal 1 of Malpensa Airport in Ferno, Varese, near Milan. Opened in 1999, the station is the western terminus of the Busto Arsizio–Malpensa Airport railway. The airport and station are also known as Milan-Malpensa Airport, because the airport is the main airport serving Milan. The station is managed by Ferrovienord. Most train services are operated by LeNORD.
Sancarlone
The San Carlone or Sancarlone or the Colossus of San Carlo Borromeo is a massive bronze statue, erected between 1614 and 1698, near Arona, Italy. It is built on a hill overlooking Lago Maggiore near the ancestral castle of the Borromeo family. A series of chapels was planned documenting the life of the saint, forming a Sacro Monte for religious meditation and veneration. Only three were eventually built.
