Uckermark concentration camp
The Uckermark concentration camp was a small German concentration camp for girls near the Ravensbrück concentration camp in Fürstenberg/Havel, Germany and then an "emergency" extermination camp. The camp was opened in May 1942 as a detention camp for girls, aged 16 to 21, who were considered criminal or difficult. Girls who reached the upper age limit were transferred to the Ravensbrück women's camp. Camp administration was provided by the Ravensbrück camp.
Röblinsee
Röblinsee is a lake in the Mecklenburg Lake District, in Germany. It is situated in the district of Oberhavel in the state of Brandenburg, and lies immediately to the west of the town of Fürstenberg. The lake has an east-west orientation, and is about 2 kilometres long and up to 0.5 kilometres wide. The navigable River Havel flows through the Röblinsee, entering it via a 5.4 kilometres channel from the Ziernsee.
Baalensee
Baalensee is a lake in the Mecklenburg Lake District, in Germany. It is situated in the district of Oberhavel in the state of Brandenburg, and lies immediately to the east of the centre of the town of Fürstenberg. The navigable River Havel flows through the Baalensee, entering it from the Röblinsee via a short channel and lock in the centre of Fürstenberg, and exiting directly into the adjacent Schwedtsee. Navigation is administered as part of the Obere–Havel–Wasserstraße.
Schwedtsee
Schwedtsee is a lake in the Mecklenburg Lake District, in Germany. It is situated in the district of Oberhavel in the state of Brandenburg, and lies to the east of the centre of the town of Fürstenberg. The site of the Ravensbrück concentration camp was adjacent to the lake, and a memorial is now situated between the lake and the camp site. The lake has about an area of 750,000 square metres and is up to 3.5 metres deep.
Ravensbrück concentration camp
Ravensbrück was a notorious women's concentration camp during World War II, located in northern Germany, 90 km north of Berlin at a site near the village of Ravensbrück. Construction of the camp began in November 1938 by SS leader Heinrich Himmler and was unusual in that it was a camp primarily for women and children. The camp opened in May 1939. In the spring of 1941, the SS authorities established a small men's camp adjacent to the main camp.
