Château de Ferrières
Château de Ferrières is a French château built between 1855 and 1859 by Baron James de Rothschild in the Goût Rothschild. Rothschild ownership of the Château de Ferrières was passed down through the male line according to the rule of primogeniture. Considered by far the largest and most luxurious 19th century château in France, it is reached from rue Rucherie in Ferrières-en-Brie in the Seine et Marne département of France about 26 km east of Paris.
Château de Guermantes
Construction and Design[edit] Construction of the Château de Guermantes in Lagny-sur-Marne, Seine et Marne, France, was undertaken by Claude Viole (died 1638), whose family had possessed the fief of "Le Chemin" since the mid sixteenth century. Paulin Pondre (1650-1723) purchased the property in 1698. He engaged Jules Hardouin-Mansart for renovations to the building, completed in 1710 (Ministère de la culture), and André Le Nôtre to lay out the garden.
Lagny-Pomponne rail accident
The Lagny-Pomponne rail accident was a train disaster that happened on December 23, 1933 between Pomponne and Lagny-sur-Marne, twenty kilometers east of Paris, when the 4-8-2 locomotive of the express for Strasbourg crashed at 110 km/hr (65 mph) into the rear of an auxiliary train for Nancy which was stopped on the railway. The impact crushed and splintered the last five cars of the Nancy train, which were older wooden cars pressed into service for the holidays.
