Orono is a community in the Municipality of Clarington, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the southern stretch of Highway 35/115, approximately a 45-minute drive east of Toronto.
United Counties of Northumberland and Durham, Ontario
The United Counties of Northumberland and Durham was a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. The two counties were originally combined in the District of Newcastle formed in 1802, and continued as united counties until January 1, 1974 when portions of Durham County were amalgamated with adjacent Ontario County to form the Regional Municipality of Durham. Manvers Township went to Victoria County. What is now Cavan-Monaghan went to Peterborough County.
Newcastle District
The Newcastle District was a historic district in Upper Canada which existed until 1849. It was formed in 1802 from the Home District. It consisted of the counties of: Durham Northumberland The legislature had enacted in 1798 that "as soon as there are one thousand souls within the said counties, and that six of the townships therein do hold town meetings according to law" (there were ten townships in the District) the government shall declare them a separate district; which was done in 1802.

Jungle Cat World, originally named "Orono Exotic Cat World," is a wildlife park that was established in 1983 by Wolfram and Christa Klose. The park is still owned and operated by the Klose family. It is located in Orono, Ontario, Canada, approximately 45 minutes east of Toronto off of Highway 35/115. Jungle Cat World is open year round and has many other mammals and birds aside from its cats.
