Great Falls, Virginia

Great Falls is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. Although primarily a bedroom community for Washington, D.C. , one major attraction is Great Falls Park which overlooks the Great Falls of the Potomac River, for which the community and the park are named. George Washington was involved with building a canal around the falls on the southwest, or Virginia, side, called the Patowmack Canal, which did not become commercially viable.

Battle of Dranesville

The Battle of Dranesville was a small battle during the American Civil War that took place between Confederate forces under General J.E.B. Stuart and Union forces under General Edward O.C. Ord on December 20, 1861, in Fairfax County, Virginia, as part of Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan's operations in northern Virginia. The two forces on similar winter-time patrols encountered and engaged one another in the crossroads village of Dranesville. The battle resulted in a Union victory.

Wiehle – Reston East (WMATA station)

Wiehle – Reston East (preliminary names Wiehle Avenue, Reston – Wiehle Avenue) is a planned Washington Metro station in Fairfax County, Virginia on the Silver Line. It is scheduled to begin operation in 2013, and will be the western terminus of the Silver Line from 2013 until around 2016, when Route 772 will become the western terminus. The station is being developed alongside Reston Station, a mixed-use urban center.

Reston Station is a transit-oriented, mixed-use, urban employment center in the Dulles Corridor of Fairfax County, which includes the planned Wiehle – Reston East Metro station, in Reston, Virginia. It is being developed through a public-private partnership between Comstock Partners LC and Fairfax County. The project consists of a 1.5 million square foot subterranean parking garage and 1.3 million square feet of hotel, office, residential and retail space above it.
