Trier (region)
Trier was one of the three Regierungsbezirke of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, located in the west of the state. The region was created in 1815 as part of the Prussian Rhineland. Before World War I parts of Saarland were administered within Regierungsbezirk Trier. In 1946 it became part of the new state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Porta Nigra
The Porta Nigra (Latin for black gate) is a large Roman city gate in Trier, Germany. It is today the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps and has been designated a World Heritage Site. The name Porta Nigra originated in the Middle Ages due to the darkened color of its stone; the original Roman name has not been preserved. Locals commonly refer to the Porta Nigra simply as Porta.
Saar (river)
The Saar is a river in northeastern France and western Germany, and a right tributary of the Moselle. It rises in the Vosges mountains on the border of Alsace and Lorraine and flows northwards into the Moselle near Trier. It has two headstreams (the Sarre Rouge and Sarre Blanche, which join in Lorquin), that both start near Mont Donon, the highest peak of the northern Vosges. After 246 km the Saar flows into the Moselle at Konz between Trier and the Luxembourg border.
Wasserbillig
Wasserbillig is a town in the commune of Mertert, in eastern Luxembourg. As of 2005, Wasserbillig has 2,186 inhabitants, which makes it the largest town in Mertert. It lies at the confluence of the rivers Moselle and Sauer, which form the border with Germany at the town. Wasserbillig is the lowest settlement in Luxembourg, at 132 m above sea level. Wasserbillig is home to a large aquarium with tanks of up to 40,000 litres exhibiting fish from around the world in natural surroundings.
Sauer
The Sauer or Sûre is a river in Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. A left tributary of the river Moselle, its total length is 173 km. Rising near Vaux-sur-Sûre in the Ardennes in southeastern Belgium, the Sauer flows eastwards and crosses the border with Luxembourg near Martelange. It forms the border between Belgium and Luxembourg for 13 km north of Martelange.
Sarre (department)
Sarre is the name of a department of the First French Empire which is now part of Germany and Belgium. It is named after the river Saar. It was formed in 1798, when the left bank of the Rhine was annexed by France. Prior to the occupation, its territory was divided between the Archbishopric of Trier and the Electorate of the Palatinate. Its territory is part of the present German states Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland as well as a tiny adjacent section of the Belgian province of Liège.

Trier-Land is a Verbandsgemeinde ("collective municipality") in the Trier-Saarburg district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the border with Luxembourg, north and west of Trier. The seat of the municipality is in Trier, itself not part of the municipality. Karl Marx House
The Karl Marx House museum is the house in Trier in which Karl Marx was born in 1818; it is now a museum. The significance of the house went unnoticed until 1904, at which point the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) worked hard to buy it, succeeding in 1928. After the Nazi party came to power in 1933 the building was confiscated and turned into a printing house. On May 5, 1947 the building was opened as a museum of the life and works of Karl Marx.
Born, Luxembourg
Born is a village on the River Sauer in the commune of Mompach, in eastern Luxembourg. It lies on the N10, 14 km south of Echternach and 8 km north of Wasserbillig. Only 5 minutes drive from the E44 motorway from Luxembourg City to Trier, it is popular with tourists and day-trippers who enjoy walking, cycling or fishing along the grassy banks of the river. As of 2001, Born has a population of 340.

Cathedral of Trier
The Cathedral of Saint Peter is a church in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is the oldest cathedral in the country. The edifice is notable for its extremely long life span under multiple different eras each contributing some elements to its design, including the center of the main chapel being made of Roman brick laid under the direction of Saint Helen, resulting in a cathedral added on to gradually rather than rebuilt in different eras.
Roman Bridge (Trier)
The Roman Bridge is an ancient structure in Trier, Germany, over the Mosel. It is the oldest standing bridge in the country. The nine bridge pillars date from the 2nd century AD. The upper part was renewed twice, in the early 12th and in the early 18th century, after suffering destruction in war.
Roscheider Hof Open Air Museum
The Roscheider Hof Open Air Museum is the open-air museum and Folklore Museum of the Greater SaarLorLux Region. The museum is situated in Konz, Germany, on the Saar and Mosel rivers, 8 km west of Trier and 30 km east of Luxembourg. It is a museum for rural cultural history in northwest Rhineland-Palatinate and the German-Luxembourg-Lorraine border region. Unlike many other open air museums, the Roscheider Hof is not a public or community institution.

Roman Catholic Diocese of Trier
The Roman Catholic diocese of Trier is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic church in Germany. As former archbishopric and Electorate of Trier it was one of the most important as both an ecclesiastical principality of the Holy Roman Empire, and as a diocese of the church. Unlike the other Rhenish dioceses — Mainz and Cologne, Trier was the former Roman provincial capital of Augusta Treverorum.
St. Matthias' Abbey
St. Matthias' Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The abbey church, a Romanesque basilica, is a renowned place of pilgrimage because of the tomb of Saint Matthias the Apostle, after whom the abbey is named, located here since the 12th century, and the only burial of an apostle in Germany and north of the Alps. The abbey was originally named after Saint Eucharius, first Bishop of Trier, whose tomb is in the crypt.
Aula Palatina
The Basilica of Constantine, or Aula Palatina, at Trier, Germany is a Roman palace basilica that was built by the emperor Constantine (AD 306–337) at the beginning of the 4th century. Today it is owned and used as church by a congregation within the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland. The basilica contains the largest extant hall from antiquity and is ranked a World Heritage Site. The hall has a length of 67 m, a width of 26.05 m and a height of 33 m.
Weingut von Othegraven
Weingut von Othegraven is a wine-growing estate in the Mosel wine region with a wine-growing history of the site from the 2nd–4th century and a documented tradition of more than 600 years. It is located on the lower banks of the Saar River a tributary of the Moselle River, opposite to the village of Kanzem.
Saint Paulin Church
Saint Paulin Church is a Baroque church in the city of Trier, Germany. Constructed between 1734 and 1753, the interior was designed by Johann Balthasar Neumann. The ceiling of the nave features a painting by the artist Christoph Thomas Scheffler. The tomb of the saint after which the church is named, Paulinus, is located in the church's crypt. Based in Germany's oldest city with a significant Roman history, three church buildings have stood on the site since the 4th century.

Wasserbillig Aquarium
The Wasserbillig Aquarium is located in Wasserbillig, a small town in the south west of Luxembourg on the German border. It consists of 15 tanks ranging in size from 300 to 40,000 litres (to US gal), with fish from all five continents in their natural surroundings. Among the more exotic varieties are angelfish, neon tetra, the colourful Japanese koi and percidae from South America. But there are also species from closer to home, including eel, bream, gudgeon, asp, tench and zander.
Born Castle
Born Castle (French: Château de Born) is located in the centre of the little village of Born some 8 km (5 mi) north of Wasserbillig in south-eastern Luxembourg. It has a history dating from 1286 when the Lords of Born lived there. In particular, they were associated with the families of Hattstein, Faust d'Aschaffenbourg and de Villers. Today's castle was built on the old site in the 18th century and is privately owned.
University of Applied Sciences Trier
The University of Applied Sciences Trier is a University of Applied Sciences located in Trier, Birkenfeld and Idar-Oberstein. With 6100 students the University of Applied Sciences Trier is divided into three campuses in Trier (main campus Schneidershof), Birkenfeld, and Idar-Oberstein (jewellery design). The University of Applied Sciences Trier must not be confused with the University of Trier .
