The Town of Hedgesville was laid out in 1832 along the old Warm Springs Road and named for the prominent local Hedges family. Hedgesville is a National Register Historic District. Hedgesville is located in what is known as Skinners Gap in North Mountain, seven miles north of Martinsburg.

Battle of Hoke's Run
The Battle of Hoke's Run, also known as the Battle of Falling Waters or Hainesville, took place on July 2, 1861, in Berkeley County, Virginia as part of the Manassas Campaign of the American Civil War. Notable as an early engagement of Confederate Colonel Thomas J. Jackson and his Brigade of Virginia Volunteers, nineteen days before their famous nickname would originate, this brief skirmish was hailed by both sides as a stern lesson to the other.

Battle of Smithfield Crossing
The Battle of Smithfield Crossing was a small battle during the American Civil War fought August 25 through August 29, 1864, in Jefferson and Berkeley counties in West Virginia. On August 29, two Confederate infantry divisions under Lieutenant General Jubal Early crossed Opequon Creek at Smithfield Crossing and forced back Wesley Merritt's Union cavalry division. However, a counterattack from Ricketts' infantry division stopped the Confederate advance. The results were inconclusive.

Cedar Grove is an unincorporated community in Washington County, Maryland, United States and can be found on the National Register of Historic Places. The community lies about two miles south of MD Route 63 when traveling between Williamsport and Downsville, Maryland; it is located along the northern bank of the Potomac River just opposite the Whiting's Neck promontory. The C&O Canal National Historic Park, which runs parallel to the river, is a destination for locals and tourists alike.

Four Locks
Four Locks is a former small community which is now part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. It was once a thriving community of homes and businesses in Washington County, Maryland that supported the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal from the mid-19th century, until its closure in the 1920s. In its heyday, the small community consisted of two stores, two warehouses, a dry dock for boat repair, a school, and post office, plus about a dozen houses.
