Split Rock (Bronx, New York)
Split Rock is a large dome-shaped granite boulder measuring approximately 25 feet from north to south and 15 feet from east to west. It is located in the borough of The Bronx in New York City, at the southeast corner of the intersection of the New England Thruway (I-95) and the Hutchinson River Parkway, near the border of the Bronx and Westchester County, and near the village of Pelham Manor.

Eastchester – Dyre Avenue is the northern terminal station of the IRT Dyre Avenue Line of the New York City Subway, at Dyre Avenue and East 233rd Street in the Bronx neighborhood of Eastchester. It is served by the 5 train at all times. Opened on May 29, 1912 as a local station of the New York, Westchester and Boston Railway, it closed on December 12, 1937 when the NYW&B went bankrupt. In 1940, New York City purchased the right of way from the Bronx / Westchester County boundary southward.
Cardinal Spellman High School (New York City)

It is named after Cardinal Francis Spellman, the sixth archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. The Mount Vernon East Metro-North Railroad station serves passengers at Mount Vernon, New York, via the New Haven Line. The station is the first station north of the junction where the New Haven Line splits from the Harlem Line and is the only station on the line before it changes from third rail power to overhead catenary power, which takes place north of there, between Mount Vernon East and Pelham stations.

The station is one mile west of the point where the New Haven Line joins the Northeast Corridor and just east of the end of third rail power and start of overhead catenary power. Pelham is 15.1 miles from Grand Central Terminal and the average travel time from Grand Central is 32 minutes. Pelham Station was built in 1893 by the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad.
Willson's Woods Park
Willson's Woods Park is a park located in Mount Vernon, New York. The Park is owned by Westchester County and operated by its Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. Acquired in 1924, Willson's Woods is one of the oldest parks in the County's parks system. The Park was named for the former owner of the land, Charles Hill Willson of the Willson & Adams Lumber Company. The park is flanked to the east by the Hutchinson River Parkway and by Pelham Lake.

The crash took place before dawn at about 5:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the New England Thruway segment of Interstate 95 at the border between The Bronx and Westchester County, New York. The bus was returning to Chinatown, New York City from Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.
