The 2002 United States Open Championship was the 102nd U.S. Open, held between June 13 and June 16 at the Black Course of Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York, east of New York City on Long Island. Tiger Woods was the champion at 277 (–3), three shots ahead of runner-up Phil Mickelson. It was Woods' second U.S. Open victory and eighth major championship win of his career.
Old Bethpage Village Restoration
The Old Bethpage Village Restoration is a 209-acre recreated living museum village in Old Bethpage, New York. The village opened in 1970 with dozens of historic structures that had been saved from demolition by Nassau County. Costumed actors provide demonstrations of 19th century life. Major funding cuts by the county in the early 1990s led to reduced availability and increasing deterioration. It is the site of the annual Long Island Fair.
Bethpage Black Course
The Bethpage Black Course is a public golf course on Long Island, New York, the most difficult of the five courses at Bethpage State Park. In 2002, the Black Course became the first publicly owned and operated course to host the U.S. Open, which returned in 2009.
