The A170 is an A road in North Yorkshire, England. It begins at Thirsk, spouting off from the A19 road. After about 5 miles it enters the North York Moors National Park and the Hambleton Hills and reaches the very steep viewpoint Sutton Bank after a steep climb, before passing through the small town of Helmsley; the B1257 splits from the road after joining it at Sproxton.

Cropton

Cropton is a village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. It is on the border of the North York Moors National Park, 2 miles north west of Pickering. At the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 254. Cropton Brewery, a microbrewery, is located to the rear of the New Inn on the edge of the village. To the rear is the site of a Motte and Bailey Castle, known as the Round Hill.

Cropton Brewery

The Cropton Brewery is situated in the village of Cropton in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. It is on the border of the North Riding Forest Park, 2 miles north west of Pickering. Brewing in Cropton can be traced back to 1613, though those early brews were illegal and those caught ended up in York Goal. Local women helped in the production of the earlier beers, and the 'Ale Wives' as they were known, were often cursed if they produced a bad brew.

Tabular Hills

The Tabular Hills are an east-west line of distinct hills on the southern boundary of the North York Moors, running from Scarborough in the east all the way to Black Hambleton in the west. The name refers to their flat tabular shaped summits composed of hard Corallian limestone known locally as "nabs". They form the northern boundary of the Vale of Pickering.
