Palace of Nations

The Palais des Nations (English: Palace of Nations) in Geneva, Switzerland, was built between 1929 and 1936 to serve as the headquarters of the League of Nations. It has served as the home of the United Nations Office at Geneva since 1946 when the Secretary General of the UN signed a Headquarters Agreement with the Swiss authorities, although Switzerland did not become a member of the UN until 2002.

Arve

The Arve river flows for approximately 100 km (62 miles) through France, in the département of Haute-Savoie, and (for a few kilometers) in Switzerland. It is a left tributary of the Rhône. Rising in the Graian Alps, close to the Swiss border, it receives water from the many glaciers of the Chamonix valley before flowing north-west into the Rhône on the west side of Geneva, where its much higher level of silt brings forth a striking contrast between the two rivers.

Grand Théâtre de Genève is an opera house in Geneva, Switzerland. As with many other opera houses, the Grand Théâtre de Genève is both a venue and an institution. The venue is a majestic building, towering over Place Neuve, officially opened in 1876, partly destroyed by fire in 1951 and reopened in 1962, after extensive refurbishments, which houses the largest stage in Switzerland.

Charmilles Stadium

Charmilles Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium in Geneva, Switzerland. It was used mostly for football matches, and was the home venue for Servette FC. The stadium was able to hold 9,250 people and was built in 1930 for the Coupe des Nations 1930 tournament. During the 1954 FIFA World Cup the stadium hosted five games. It was closed in 2002 before Stade de Genève opened.

Patinoire des Vernets

Patinoire des Vernets is an arena in Geneva, Switzerland. It is primarily used for ice hockey and is the home arena of Genève-Servette HC. opened in 1958, it has a seating capacity for 7,285 people. The arena hosted the 1962 FIBA Champions Cup final in which Dynamo Tbilisi of Georgia defeated Real Madrid 90-83. The 1976 and 1984 finals of the same competition was also hosted at the arena. The arena also hosted the 1991 cup winners cup final.

Broken Chair

Broken Chair is a monumental sculpture in wood by the Swiss artist Daniel Berset, constructed by the carpenter Louis Genève. It is constructed of 5.5 tons of wood and is 12 metres (39 feet) high. It depicts a giant chair with a broken leg and stands across the street from the Palace of Nations, in Geneva. It symbolises opposition to land mines and cluster bombs, and acts as a reminder to politicians and others visiting Geneva.

Geneva Mosque

The Geneva Mosque was constructed in 1978 in the neighbourhood Le Petit-Saconnex in Geneva, Switzerland. Musée Rath

Institut et Musée Voltaire
