Old Synagogue (Essen)
The Old Synagogue is a cultural meeting center and memorial in the city of Essen in West Germany. It is located in the center of the city on Steeler Straße 29, close to the present city hall. The memorial center was founded in 1980 and is accommodated in the pre-war Jewish community's synagogue. The synagogue, together with the attached Rabbinerhaus (House of the Rabbi), which today houses the archives of the city of Essen, was finished after a two-year construction period in 1913.

Grugahalle is an indoor sports arena, located in Essen, Germany. Opened in 1958, the seating capacity of the arena is 5,309 people, for sporting events and 7,800, for concerts. Uhlenkrugstadion
Uhlenkrugstadion is a multi-use stadium in Essen, Germany. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as home ground for Schwarz-Weiß Essen. The stadium was built by its main tenant in 1922, having an initial capacity of 35,000 people and featuring a stand constructed out of iron, which was unusual at this time. In 1939, the structure was expanded to hold 45,000 people.

Museum Folkwang is a major collection of 19th and 20th century art in Essen, Germany. The museum was established in 1922 by merging the Essener Kunstmuseum, which was founded in 1906, and the private Folkwang Museum of the collector and patron Karl Ernst Osthaus in Hagen, founded in 1901. The term Folkwang derives from the name of the afterlife meadow of the dead, Fólkvangr, presided over by the Norse goddess Freyja.

Essen-Hügel station
Essen-Hügel is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany on the Essen-Werden–Essen line. It is situated in the valley of the river Ruhr between the Essen city boroughs of Rüttenscheid and Werden, close to Villa Hügel. The station today sees regular service by Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn trains on the S6 line.
Essen Central Station
Essen Central Station (Essen Hauptbahnhof) is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany. It is situated south of the old town centre, next to the A 40 motorway. It was opened in 1862 by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn. However, the station was not the first in Essen: as the station called Essen on the Köln-Mindener Eisenbahn was opened in 1847. The station suffered extensive damage in World War II and was almost completely rebuilt in the 1950s and 1960s.
Montagsloch
The so called Montagsloch in Essen was a building project during the time of National Socialism in Germany. It should have become one of the biggest stadiums in Germany. Its name probably refers to the day when 35 Russian forced labourer and maybe also some other people were killed by the Gestapo of Essen at this place. It was on March 12, 1945,a Monday . Some of the murderers were judged to long term prison sentences by a British military court in 1948.

Villa Hügel
The Villa Hügel is a mansion in Bredeney (part of the modern city of Essen) in Germany. It belonged to the Krupp family of industrialists and was built by Alfred Krupp in 1873 as a residence. More recently, the Villa Hügel has housed the offices of the Kulturstiftung Ruhr (Ruhr Cultural Foundation) as well as an art gallery and the historical archive of the Krupp family and company.

It is located at Henri-Dunant-Strasse 65, Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The garden is maintained for research and educational uses, and not open to the public. The garden was established in the early 1980s by Dr. Guido Benno Feige, Professor of Botany.
Botanischer Garten Grugapark
The Botanischer Garten Grugapark is a municipal botanical garden located in the Grugapark at Virchowstraße 167a, Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is open daily; an admission fee is charged. The garden was established in 1927 for recreation, teaching, and research. Parts of the garden were destroyed in World War II but gradually rebuilt and re-designed for the Essen Bundesgartenschau of 1965.

The Aalto Theatre (in German officially Aalto-Musiktheater Essen) is an opera house and major performing arts venue in Essen, Germany. It was opened on 25 September 1988 with Richard Wagner's opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. The building is mainly used for opera and ballet performances; it also serves for concerts and gala events.

The building was badly damaged in World War II; it was restored with a much simpler façade aand re-opened in 1950 with Wagner's opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Notable directors included Erwin Piscator, Jean-Louis Barrault, Heinz Dietrich Kenter, Hansgünter Heyme.
