Stiepel used to be a municipality in the rural district of Bochum, but was integrated into Bochum in 1929. Stiepel is the most affluent part of Bochum. It has an old village church dating from 1008.

Höntrop borders inter alia to Freisenbruch, which belongs to Essen, another city, and Linden a district of Bochum. Höntrop belongs to the Stadtbezirk (district of the town) of Wattenscheid. Höntrop has a railway line to Düsseldorf and Dortmund and a tram line to Heven, a part of Witten.

The population's main language was once Westphalian, but it has since been replaced by High German. Bochum-Linden is located in the south west of Bochum, between Dahlhausen and Stiepel. It shares a border with Hattingen, a city of Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis.
Burg Blankenstein
Burg Blankenstein is a castle located on the south side of the river Ruhr in Hattingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. May 12th 1226 Adolf I, Count of the Mark, gave the order to build the castle. He charged Truchsess Ludolf von Bönen to set up Blankenstein. Beginning in 1227, the castle was ready in 1243, but built over the course of 200 years by the Counts of the Mark. In 1425 Blankenstein is one of the most important castles in the county.

It is a dependent house of Heiligenkreuz Abbey in Austria. It was the first bank in Germany that operated with an ethical philosophy. In its current incarnation, it was built from 1955 to 1957 and is one of the most notable 1950s railway stations in Germany. The station underwent extensive remodeling and modernisation from 2004 to 2006 and was officially reopened on 29 May 2006.
Graf-Engelbert-Schule
Graf-Engelbert School is an urban high school for boys and girls in Bochum, Germany. Near the center of the city and the tree-lined Königsallee, it is located on Else-Hirsch-Straße. Else Hirsch was a teacher in Bochum during the Third Reich and organized ten children's transports, saving many lives, though she herself perished in the Holocaust. Graf-Engelbert School is only a few hundred meters from the Schiller School (also a high school).

The Berufsgenossenschaftliches Universitätsklinikum Bergmannsheil, full German name "Berufsgenossenschaftliches Universitätsklinikum Bergmannsheil GmbH", also referred to as "Bergmannsheil", formerly known as "Bergbau-Berufsgenossenschaftliche Krankenanstalten Bergmannsheil", is a large teaching hospital in Bochum. It is a hospital of the Ruhr-University Bochum and part of the University Hospitals of the Ruhr-University of Bochum.
Gymnasium am Ostring
The Gymnasium am Ostring was the oldest gymnasium in Bochum. It was founded in 1860 and closed after the 2009-2010 school year. The school was located in downtown Bochum, near the main train station. In the 2005-2006 school year, there were 786 students and 55 teachers. In the early 80s, the school had over 1,000 students. The peak enrollment was 1,310 in the 1980-1981 school year. In humanities tradition, the school offered Latin, ancient Greek, and Hebrew.

Albert-Einstein-Schule was a Gymnasium for boys and girls from grades 5-13 in Bochum, Germany. It had about 900 students. Just south of downtown Bochum, the school was in the Wiemelhausen section of town and shared a campus with the Hans Böckler Realschule. The school had an emphasis in natural science and English. It had a bilingual program, where some classes were taught in English, rather than German. Albert-Einstein-Schule was certified as a European School in February 2008.
