Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook is a barrier spit, approximately 6 miles (10 km) in length and varying between 0.10 and 1 miles (0.16–1.6 km) wide in Middletown Township in Monmouth County, along the Atlantic Ocean coast of eastern New Jersey in the United States. The barrier spit encloses the southern entrance of Lower New York Bay south of New York City. The Dutch called the area "Sant Hoek", with the English "Hook" deriving from the Dutch "Hoek" (corner, angle), meaning "spit of land".

Fort Hancock is a former United States Army fort at Sandy Hook, located in Middletown Township in Monmouth County, along the Atlantic coast of eastern New Jersey in the United States. This coastal artillery base played an important part in the defense of New York Harbor and played a role in the history of New Jersey. Raritan Bayshore

Sandy Hook Proving Ground

The Sandy Hook Proving Ground was a military facility, established by the Secretary of War on August 7, 1874, to serve as the United States Army's first proving ground for the testing of ordnance and materiel. The facility was located at Sandy Hook, a narrow coastal spit of land, approximately 6 miles in length and 0.5 miles (varying between 0.1 and 1 miles) wide, in Middletown Township in Monmouth County, along the Atlantic coast of New Jersey.

Battery Gunnison

Battery Gunnison, later called Battery New Peck, is a six inch coast artillery battery located on Sandy Hook in New Jersey. Gunnison was built in 1903 as a twin six inch disappearing gun battery. In 1942 the battery was altered to accept two M1900 six inch pedestal mounted guns along with the addition of two shell hoists and a plotting room. The battery was renamed Battery New Peck after the modification because the two six inch guns were transferred from Battery Peck.
