The Battle of Fallen Timbers (August 20, 1794) was the final battle of the Northwest Indian War, a struggle between American Indian tribes affiliated with the Western Confederacy and the United States for control of the Northwest Territory (an area bounded on the south by the Ohio River, on the west by the Mississippi River, and on the northeast by the Great Lakes).
Siege of Fort Meigs
The Siege of Fort Meigs took place during the War of 1812, in northwestern Ohio. A small British army with support from Indians attempted to capture the recently-constructed fort to forestall an American offensive against Detroit, which the British had captured the previous year. An American sortie and relief attempt failed with heavy casualties, but the British failed to capture the fort and were forced to raise the siege.
Battle of Fallen Timbers Monument
The Battle of Fallen Timbers Monument or Anthony Wayne Memorial is a statuary group created by Bruce Saville. It was dedicated in 1929 at the site of the Battle of Fallen Timbers which took place on August 20, 1794. At that battle General "Mad Anthony" Wayne defeated a combined army of various tribes led by Chiefs Little Turtle, Turkey Foot, Blue Jacket and others. The monument is located in a park, 2 miles west of Maumee, Ohio.
