Armageddon

Armageddon will be, according to the Book of Revelation, the site of a battle during the end times, variously interpreted as either a literal or symbolic location. Tel Megiddo

Megiddo is a tell in modern Israel near Kibbutz Megiddo, about 30km south-east of Haifa, known for its historical, geographical, and theological importance, especially under its Greek name Armageddon. In ancient times Megiddo was an important city-state. Excavations have unearthed 26 layers of ruins, indicating a long period of settlement. Megiddo is strategically located at the head of a pass through the Carmel Ridge overlooking the Jezreel Valley from the west.

The Battle of Megiddo (15th century BC) was fought between Egyptian forces under the command of Pharaoh Thutmose III and a large rebellious coalition of Canaanite vassal states led by the king of Kadesh. It is the first battle to have been recorded in what is accepted as relatively reliable detail. Megiddo is also the first recorded use of the composite bow and the first body count.

Battle of Megiddo (609 BC)

This Battle of Megiddo is recorded as having taken place in 609 BC with Necho II of Egypt leading his army to Carchemish to fight with his allies the Assyrians against the Babylonians at Carchemish in northern Syria. This required passing through territory controlled by the Kingdom of Judah and Necho requested permission from its king, Josiah. Josiah refused to let the Egyptians pass for reasons discussed by the talmud and a battle took place in which Josiah was killed.

Jezreel Valley

Megiddo Junction

The Megiddo Junction is an intersection of Highways 65 and 66 in northern Israel, located near kibbutz Megiddo. A major landmark is a large prison. Nearby are the sites of some ancient battles of Megiddo and the ruins of Megiddo (Armageddon). The five kilometre stretch of Highway 65 east towards Afula is called Kvish HaSargel, lit. 'the Ruler Road', since it is virtually flat and straight as a ruler.

Ram-On is a moshav ovdim located in the Ta'anakh region, south of the Jezreel Valley in Israel. It belongs to the Gilboa Regional Council. Ram-On was founded in 1953 by children of families from moshavim around Israel. They originally settled in Nurit on the Gilboa mountain. In 1961 the community moved from Gilboa mountain to the present-day location of Ram-On. There is a factory in the moshav that manufactures thermoplastic materials.

Ta'anakh

The Ta'anakh region, also known as Ta'anachim, is an area to the south of Israel's Jezreel Valley and east of the Wadi Ara region. The area is named after the biblical city, located just across the Green Line in the northwest West Bank. In the 1950s, the area was settled by immigrants from Morocco, Tunisia, Kurdistan, and Poland. Most or all of this region is located in the Gilboa Regional Council.

Megiddo Airport

Megiddo Airport (known as Shachar 7 by the Israel Defense Forces), is an Israeli airport located near Megiddo and 3 km southwest of Afula in the Jezreel Valley. Opened in 1942. Served as an auxiliary field to Ramat David. It currently handles private and agricultural flights. It formerly served as an Israeli Air Force base and was decommissioned in the mid-1980s. On October 11, 1989, a Syrian MiG-23MLD defected to Israel, landing at Meggido.

Mle'a or Meleah is a moshav in the Ta'anakh region in northern Israel. It belongs to the Gilboa Regional Council. It was founded in 1956 by immigrants to Israel from Morocco in the program to settle the Ta'anakh region. By the end of 1957, most of the original settlers moved out, but immigrants from Poland moved in to replace them. As of 2007 about 60 families live in the moshav. Most of them make a living from agriculture and raising livestock.

Highway 65 (Israel)

Highway 65 is a major highway in northern Israel. It connects Hadera with the Galilee. This road is the shortest and simplest way to connect these two major regions. Historically, people traveled on or near this route for thousands of years from the coastal plain to reach the Galilee, and beyond it the Golan, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. In the 1949 Armistice Agreements Israel received the portion of this road in Wadi Ara for this reason.

The Plain of Manasseh is a geographical region in northern Israel, located on the Carmel Range, between Mount Carmel and Mount Amir/Umm al-Fahm. While it is part of the mountain range, it is actually just 200 m above sea level on average, and peaks at 400 m. The plain is bordered by the Jezreel Valley to the northeast, the Yokne'am Stream to the northwest, Wadi Ara to the southeast, and the Nadiv Valley to the southwest. The Battle of Mishmar HaEmek was a ten-day battle fought from 4 to 15 April 1948 between the Arab Liberation Army commanded by Fawzi al-Qawuqji and the Haganah commanded by Yitzhak Sadeh. The battle begun when al-Qawyqji launched an attack against Mishmar HaEmek with the intent of taking the kibbutz, which was strategically placed beside the main road between Jenin and Haifa. In 1947 it had a population of 550.

The Megiddo Junction bus bombing was the suicide bombing of an Egged bus at Megiddo Junction in northern Israel on June 5, 2002. 17 people were killed in the attack and 43 people were injured. The Palestinian Islamist militant organization Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.
