Avshalom Cave

Avshalom Cave, also known as Soreq Cave or Stalactites Cave, is a 5,000 m cave on the western side of Mt. Ye'ela, in the Judean hills, in Israel, unique for its dense concentration of stalactites. The cave was discovered accidentally in May 1968, while quarrying with explosives, near Hartuv, 3 km east of Bet Shemesh, Israel. It is 83 m long, 60 m wide, and 15 m high. The cave is named after Avshalom Shoham, an Israeli soldier killed in the War of Attrition.

Yish'i

The village was established on 12 July 1950 by immigrants from Yemen. Its name it taken from Psalms 27:1; The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Hartuv

Hartuv or Har-Tuv (lit. Mount of goodness) was an agricultural colony in the Judean Hills established in 1883 on land purchased from the Arab village of Artuf by English missionaries. It was destroyed in the 1929 Palestine riots but was rebuilt in 1930. In 1948 it was abandoned again. Hartuv was the starting point for the Convoy of 35 during the 1948 war. Hartuv is now an industrial zone near Beit Shemesh.

Murder of Neta Sorek and Kristine Luken

Kristine Luken was an American Christian who was murdered in a Palestinian terrorist attack on December 18, 2010 while hiking with her friend, Kay Wilson in the hills of Jerusalem. Despite multiple stab wounds, Wilson survived the attack; Luken's body was later found by Israeli police, bound and stabbed to death. The Palestinian terror cell that perpetrated the attack were later arrested.
