ČEZ Aréna (Ostrava)

ČEZ Aréna is an indoor arena used mainly for ice hockey matches, in Ostrava-Jih, Ostrava, Czech Republic. It opened in 1986 and underwent a €23.3 million renovation in 2003–2004. The capacity of the arena is 9,568, plus 18 skyboxes, making it the fourth-largest hockey venue in the Czech Republic. The rink can be converted into seating for concerts, increasing the capacity to 12,000. It is the home of ice hockey club HC Vítkovice. In November 2003, the arena was given the name ČEZ Aréna.

Lučina (river)

Lučina (Polish: Łucyna or Łuczyna) is a river in Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. It is the tributary of the Ostravice River to which it enters in Ostrava. It originates in Beskids and then flows northwestward through Horní Bludovice and Dolní Bludovice, near Havířov. Žermanice Dam is built on the river. Morávka (river)

Morávka is a river in Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. It flows through the historical region of Těšín Silesia. It originates on the slope of Sulov mountain in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids in the elevation of 880 m, near the border with Slovakia. It then flows in northwestward direction through the sparsely populated area. Some 10 km from the source a dam was built in 1961-1966. Lower course of the river is unique due to its natural character and as such it is protected.

Silesian Ostrava Castle

Silesian Ostrava Castle is a castle in Ostrava, in the northeastern Czech Republic. It was originally built in the 1280s near the confluence of the Lučina and Ostravice rivers. The castle was built for military purposes due to its proximity to the Polish border. In 1534, the gothic castle was rebuilt into a renaissance chateau. It burned down in 1872 but was rebuilt. It was restored recently after many years of dilapidation, caused by coal mining under the castle.

Battle of Czajánek's barracks

The Battle of Czajánek's barracks (also spelled as the Battle of Čajánek's barracks) was a confrontation between the Czechoslovak and German armies, which took place on 14 March 1939 in the course of the German occupation of Czechoslovakia. Together with a clash which allegedly took place at Moravská Třebová, this was the only known Czechoslovak active resistance to the German army during the occupation of Bohemia and Moravia in March 1939.
