The City of Whittlesea is a local government area located in the outer northern suburbs of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covers an area of 489.9 square kilometres, and at the 2011 Census it had a population of 154,880.

Doreen is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 26 km north-east from Melbourne's Central Business District. Its Local Government Area is the City of Whittlesea and the Shire of Nillumbik. At the 2011 Census, Doreen had a population of 11,276. Patrick Reid settled the area in 1844, calling it "Hazel Glen". The Post Office opened on 8 December 1870 as Hazelglen and was renamed Doreen in 1895.

Bears Castle
Bears Castle is a small castle in Yan Yean, Victoria, Australia. The castle was constructed from mud and clay in around 1846 by two men named Hannaford and Edwards, each of whom had recently arrived from Devon, England. It was built for the pastoralist John Bear. The castle is approximately 12 square metres in area, and has parapets and turrets on each corner. In around 1900 the parapets and a castellated tower were removed.

Yan Yean Reservoir
Yan Yean Reservoir is the oldest water supply for the city of Melbourne, Australia. It is built on the Plenty River a tributary of the Yarra River, 30 km north of the city. A 9.5 metre embankment holds back 30,000 megalitres (30 million cubic metres) of water. Work began in 1853 at the height of the gold rush, and it took four years to construct at a cost of £750,000. The reservoir is managed by Melbourne Water as part of the water supply system for Melbourne.

South Morang railway station (former)
South Morang was a steam-era railway station on the Whittlesea line, which operated until the closure of the line beyond Lalor Station in the 1950s, after the electrification of the line to Lalor. Epping Station was then re-opened in the 1960s with the electrification of that section of the line. The remaining section of track from Epping to Whittlesea was then dismantled in the 1970s, with the former right-of-way remaining intact.
