1979 U.S. Open (golf)
The 1979 U.S. Open was the 79th U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 14–17, 1979, at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Hale Irwin won his second U.S. Open title, two strokes ahead of former champions Jerry Pate and Gary Player. Hale Irwin, the 1974 U.S. Open champion, held a three-stroke lead over Tom Weiskopf going to the final round. Irwin did not play particularly well, recording bogeys at 11, 14, and 18, and a double-bogey at 17.
1957 U.S. Open (golf)
The 1957 U.S. Open was the 57th U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 12–15, 1957, at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Dick Mayer defeated defending champion Cary Middlecoff in an 18-hole playoff to win his only major title. Amateur Billy Joe Patton owned the 36-hole lead, but fell back with consecutive 76s over the final two rounds to finish in 8th. The 54-hole lead was held by Jimmy Demaret, at 47 attempting to become the oldest U.S. Open champion.

The 1993 PGA Championship was the 75th PGA Championship, held from August 12–15 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Paul Azinger won his only major title on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff with Greg Norman. Azinger birdied four of the last seven holes to get into the playoff. Norman, the 1993 Open champion, joined Craig Wood as the only players to lose playoffs in all four major championships.
1986 PGA Championship
The 1986 PGA Championship was the 68th PGA Championship, held from August 7–11 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Bob Tway won his only major championship, two strokes ahead of runner-up Greg Norman. The two were tied on the 72nd tee; Tway put his approach shot in a greenside bunker, while Norman was just off the green on the fringe, 25 feet out. Tway improbably holed out for birdie and Norman's attempt to tie missed, as did his par-saving putt.
