Alt Empordà ("Upper Empordà") is a comarca (county) in Girona, Catalonia, Spain, one of two into which Empordà was divided by the comarcal division of Catalonia in 1936.
Vilanant
Vilanant is a town in the Alt Empordà comarca, in Girona province, Catalonia, Spain. It has a population of 328 people. The municipality covers an area of 17 km² and is located at an average altitude of 98 meters above sea level. Neighboring municipalities are to the north with Llers, to the east with Avinyonet de Puigventós, to the south with Borrassà and Navata and to the west with Cistella.
Muga (river)
The Muga is a river in Catalonia which rises in the Alberes mountains of the eastern Pyrenees and enters the sea at the Gulf of Roses. The river is 58 km long with its source below the summit of Montnegre (1,186m). The river passes through the village of Pont de Molins and passes through the Pantà de Boadella, where the river is dammed. The Muga Valley was entrusted to the County of Empúries by Ramon Berenguer III after being in the County of Besalú.

Peralada Castle
Peralada Castle is a castle in Peralada, Catalonia, Spain. A first castle was the seat of the medieval dynasty of the viscounts of Peralada, started by Berenguer, son of Ponce I, count of Empúries. During the French invasion of the Empordà, in the course of the crusade against Catalonia led by Philip III of France, the castle and the nearby buildings were set on fire and destroyed (1285). Remains of these original structure are in the upper part of the town.
Monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla
The monasteries of San Millán de Suso and San Millán de Yuso are two monasteries situated in the village of San Millán de la Cogolla, La Rioja, Spain. They have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since December 1997. The two monasteries' names Suso and Yuso mean the "upper" and the "lower" in archaic Castilian, respectively. Suso is the older building and is believed to be built on the site of a hermitage where Saint Emilian lived.
Rissec
The Rissec is an ampurdán river tributary to the west of the Daró river. Originating in Gavarres Mountains in the Els Àngels region, it empties into the Daró river in the municipality Corçà. During its course it is fed by the water from the Rodonell river and the Sant Pere creek.
Figueres Vilafant railway station
Figueres Vilafant is a railway station near Figueres in the Alt Empordà county of Catalonia, Spain, on the LGV Perpignan–Figueres line. It opened on 19 December 2010. As of 12 January 2013 (2013-01-12), it is the last stop of both French SNCF TGV trains from Paris and Spanish RENFE AVE trains from Barcelona and Madrid. The Figueres Vilafant station is also connected to the Spanish broad gauge railway network.
Sant Ferran Castle
The Sant Ferran Castle (Catalan: Castell de Sant Ferran; Spanish: Castillo de San Fernando) is situated on a hill in Figueres, Catalonia at the end of Pujada del Castell. It is a large military fortress built in the eighteenth century under the orders of several military engineers, including Peter Martin i Cermeño Juan Martin Cermeño. It is the largest monument of Catalonia.
Figueres railway station
Figueres is a railway station on the R11 of Media Distancia of Renfe in Catalonia located on the eastern side of the historic Old Town center of Figueres in the Alt Empordà county of the Girona province. In addition to regional lines, the station is also a stopping point for long distance trains such as Talgo, Trenhotel, and Costa Brava l'Estrella. The station is on the line from Barcelona to Port Bou.
Siege of Figueras (1811)
The Siege of Figueras, which lasted from 10 April to 19 August 1811, saw the Spanish garrison of Sant Ferran Castle (San Fernando Fortress) led by Brigadier General Juan Antonio Martínez defend against an Imperial French force commanded by Marshal Jacques MacDonald and his deputy Louis Baraguey d'Hilliers. Martínez and his men held out much longer than expected but were eventually starved into surrendering the fortress, which was near Figueras.
