Chouf District

Chouf (also spelled Shouf, Shuf or Chuf, in Arabic جبل الشوف Jebel ash-Shouf) is a historic region of Lebanon, as well as an administrative district in the governorate (mohafazat) of Mount Lebanon. Located south-east of Beirut, the region comprises a narrow coastal strip notable for the Christian town of Damour, and the valleys and mountains of the western slopes of Jabal Barouk, the name of the local Mount Lebanon massif.

Kfarfakoud

Kfarfakoud (Kfarfakud or Kafarfakoud كفرفاقود) is a village in the Chouf district of Lebanon that lies between the valleys of the coastal Lebanese chain of mountains. The name Kfarfakoud (as the names of other villages of Lebanon) has its origins in syriac-aramic language . Historically it is thought that the village was located in the "Khalwat" part of mount Kfarhammil (كفرحمل) and was destroyed totally by an earthquake in the 6th century AD and was rebuilt in its new place.

Lake Qaraoun

Lake Qaraoun is an artificial lake or reservoir located in the southern region of the Beqaa Valley, Lebanon. It was created near Qaraoun village in 1959 by building a 61-metre-high concrete-faced rockfill dam (the largest dam in Lebanon) in the middle reaches of the Litani River (longest river in Lebanon). The reservoir has been used for hydropower generation, domestic water supply, and for irrigation of 27,500 hectares .

Kaifun

Kaifun (also transliterated Kafun, Kaifoun) is a medium sized village in the Mount Lebanon Governorate, Aley District, in the Republic of Lebanon. Deir el Qamar Synagogue

The Deir el Qamar Synagogue, located in Deir el Qamar, a village in south-central Lebanon, is the oldest synagogue in Mount Lebanon. The synagogue was built in the 17th century to serve the local Jewish population, some of whom were part of the immediate entourage of Fakhr-al-Din II. The building is in good condition. It has been shut to the public due to security considerations.

Aitanite

Aitanite/ Aitaneet is a village in Lebanon, in the West Beqaa region. Aitanit counted 880 residents (estimation). In the last municipal Lebanese elections of 2004, its accounted 3263 resgitered voters of which 1784 actual voters. However, if the total number of Aitanite citizens who have emigrated were to be added, then the figure would be nearer to around 20,000. Niha Chouf

One is Saint Peter and Paul's church, which was built around 800 AD, destroyed during the Lebanese civil war, and rebuilt. The other is Saint Elias's church, which is newer, was destroyed during the Lebanese civil war, and is currently being rebuilt. 1956 Chim earthquake

The 1956 Chim earthquake was a destructive multiple-shock event that occurred on March 16 in Lebanon along a strand of the Dead Sea Transform (DST) fault system. The epicenter was located in the south of Lebanon in the Chouf District. Six thousand homes were destroyed and another 17,000 were damaged. The number of persons killed was 136. The twin shocks were separated by less than fifteen minutes with the first event occurring at 19:32 and the second event at 19:43 hours.
