Gdańsk
Gdańsk is a Polish city on the Baltic coast, the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland's principal seaport and the center of the country's fourth-largest metropolitan area. The city lies on the southern edge of Gdańsk Bay, in a conurbation with the city of Gdynia, spa town of Sopot, and suburban communities, which together form a metropolitan area called the Tricity (Trójmiasto), with a population near 740,000.
Danzig Research Society
The Danzig Research Society (German: Naturforschende Gesellschaft in Danzig, Latin: Societas Physicae Experimentalis, Polish: Gdańskie Towarzystwo Przyrodnicze) was founded in 1743 in the city of Danzig (Gdańsk), in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and continued in existence until 1936. The Societas Physicae Experimentalis (Experimental Physics Society) is thus considered as one of the oldest research societies in Central and Eastern Europe.
Battle of Oliwa
The naval Battle of Oliwa, also Battle of Oliva or Battle of Gdańsk Roadstead, took place on 28 November 1627 during the Polish-Swedish War slightly north of the port of Danzig (Gdańsk) near the village of Oliva. It was the largest naval battle fought by the Polish royal navy, and resulted in the defeat of a small Swedish squadron.
Free City of Danzig
The Free City of Danzig (German: Freie Stadt Danzig; Polish: Wolne Miasto Gdańsk) was a semi-autonomous city-state that existed between 1920 and 1939, consisting of the Baltic Sea port of Danzig and surrounding areas. It was created on 15 November 1920 in accordance with the terms of Part III, Section XI of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles. The Free City included the city of Danzig and over two hundred nearby towns, villages, and settlements.
Motława
Motława is a river in Eastern Pomerania in Poland. The source is in Szpegawskie lake, northeast from Starogard Gdański. It goes through Rokickie lake, and goes to Leniwka. Length 64.7 km, drawn area 1511.3 km². The city of Gdańsk is situated at its mouth in the Leniwka. In Gdańsk, the Motława ferry crosses the river, a service that has run since 1687. The Polish name Motława is derived from the Old Prussian language. In German the river is known as Mottlau.
St. Mary's Church, Gdańsk
St. Mary's Church or, properly, Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Roman Catholic church in Gdańsk (Danzig), Poland, which is the largest brick church in the world. It was begun in 1379. St. Mary's is one of the largest European Brick Gothic buildings, which include castles. Between 1536 and 1572 St. Mary's Church was used for Roman Catholic and Lutheran services alike. Since then until 1945 it was the biggest Lutheran church in the world.
SS Sołdek
SS Sołdek was a Polish coal and ore freighter. She was the first ship built in Poland after World War II and the first seagoing ship completed in Poland. She was the first of 29 ships classed as Project B30, built between 1949 and 1954 in Stocznia Gdańska. The name was given in honour of Stanisław Sołdek, one of the shipyard's shock workers. The ship is currently preserved as a museum ship in Gdańsk.
Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers of 1970
The Monument to the fallen Shipyard Workers 1970 (Polish: Pomnik Poległych Stoczniowców 1970) was unveiled on 16 December 1980 near the entrance to what was then the Lenin Shipyard in Gdańsk, Poland. It commemorates the 42 or more people killed during the Coastal cities events in December 1970. It was created in the aftermath of the Gdańsk Agreement and is the first monument to the victims of communist oppression to be erected in a communist country.

Polish Baltic F. Chopin Philharmonic in Gdańsk was founded in 1945 as Gdańsk Symphony Orchestra. The inaugural concert took place on September 29 in Sopot. In 1949 it changed its name to Polish Baltic Philharmonic. In 1953 it was combined with opera department and changed into Polish Baltic Opera and Philharmonic (POiFB). Golden Gate (Gdańsk)
Golden Gate in Gdańsk (Danzig), Poland, German Langgasser Tor, is one of the most notable tourist attractions of the city. It was raised in 1612–14 in place of the 13th century gothic gate (Brama Długouliczna). It is located at one end of Long Lane, where, together with Brama Wyżynna and Wieża Więzienna, it forms a part of the old city fortifications. It was designed by architect Abraham van den Blocke and was constructed by Jan Strakowski.
Defense of the Polish Post Office in Danzig
The Defense of the Polish Post Office in Danzig was one of the first acts of World War II in Europe, as part of the Invasion of Poland. On September 1, 1939, Polish personnel defended the building for some 15 hours against assaults by the SS Heimwehr Danzig (SS Danzig Home Defence), local SA formations and special units of Ordnungspolizei (Danzig police).
The Monument Cemetery of the Lost Cemeteries
The monument commemorates the necropolis which no longer exists in the city of Gdańsk, Poland. It is dedicated to the citizens of Gdańsk who were once buried in one of the city’s 27 graveyards either destroyed during WWII or bulldozed on purpose after the end of the war. The monument was designed to resemble a temple.
Great Synagogue (Danzig)
The Great Synagogue, was a synagogue of the Jewish Community of Danzig in the city of Danzig, Germany. It was built in 1885-1887 on Reitbahnstraße, now Bogusławski Street. It was the largest synagogue in the city, and was demolished by the Free City authorities in May 1939.
