Haneburg

Haneburg is a castle with two wings of Leer in East Frisia, Germany. It is one of the few buildings remaining of the Renaissance time in north-west Germany, which was much affected by the Netherlands. The castle was built by the chieftain of Leer, Hayo Unken, in the middle of the 15th century. Subsequently, the castle passed via the Frese family into the possession of the Hane family, from whom the building takes its present name.

Harderwykenburg

The Harderwykenburg is one of the oldest extant castles of East Frisia. It was built in the style of a medieval stone house soon after 1450 in Leer, Lower Saxony, Germany. The original building, in the form of a tower, was built of stones from a monastery, and measures 8.09 x 11.13 meters. The external walls are between 0.96 and 1.23 meters thick. The tower was later supplemented by a two-storey extension. The steeply proportioned building has now been not entirely satisfactorily restored.

Ems powerline crossing

The 380KV-Ems-Overhead Powerline Crossing is a power line crossing for two circuits on the Ems River South of Weener, Germany. It is mounted on two 84 metre tall pylons with two crossbars. The length of the span is 405 metres. The crossing is an obstacle for ships built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg. Although the ships can pass beneath the line, the clearance is often so close that the line has to be switched off.

The Sandwater near Simonswolde in the north German district of Aurich is a shallow, peat-fen (Niedermoor) lake on the edge of the geest and is one of the few remaining, preserved, natural "inland seas" in East Frisia. Jheringsfehn

Jheringsfehn (frequently misspelt Iheringsfehn) is a fen settlement in the municipality of Moormerland in the district of Leer in East Frisia near the North Sea coast of Germany. Its was named in 1754 after Sebastian Eberhard Jhering (1700-1759), great grandfather of Rudolf von Jhering. The village still has its classic fen canals. On Saturday, November 4, 2006, a planned and routine disconnection of the Ems powerline crossing in Northwest Germany was carried out to allow a ship to pass beneath the overhead cables. The disconnection resulted in minor changes in load flows. During the next thirty minutes, the situation changed rapidly with unexpected load flows threatening the N1 safety limit. An uncoordinated attempt to re-route the load flow resulted in the tripping of the Landesbergen-Wehrendorf 380kV interconnector.
