Páirc Esler
Páirc Esler formerly Páirc an Iúir (also called The Marshes) is a Gaelic Athletic Association stadium in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is the home of the Down Gaelic football and hurling teams and the Newry Shamrocks GAA club http://www. newryshamrocks. org/. The ground has a capacity of about 20,000. In recent years the ground has undergone major redevelopment work, with new stands, floodlights, new pitch all added in 2006/2007.

John Mitchel GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, established in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland in 1956, and is called after the Irish Patriot John Mitchel. The Club had the audacious ambition of winning the Down Senior Football Championship in five years and actually succeeded in four years, winning its first in 1960 and repeating the feat three more times in that decade in 1964, 1967 and 1968.

The attack on Cloghoge checkpoint was an unconventional bomb attack carried out on 1 May 1992 by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) against a British Army permanent vehicle checkpoint (PVCP-R15). The IRA's South Armagh Brigade fitted a van with wheels that allowed it to move along a railway line. A large bomb was placed inside the van, which was then driven along the railway line to the target.
