Mettlen–Lavorgo powerline
The Mettlen–Lavorgo powerline, also called the Lukmanier powerline, is the 400 kV three-phase alternating current high voltage electric power transmission line over the Lukmanier Pass in Switzerland, from Mettlen to Lavorgo. Trees falling on the line in 2003 caused a major blackout in Italy.
Blenio (district)
The district of Blenio is a district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It has a population of 5,477 (as of 31 December 2011). The capital of the district is Acquarossa.
Leventina (district)
The district of Leventina is one of the eight districts of the largely Italian-speaking canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The capital of the district is Faido but the largest town is Airolo at the beginning or at the end of the valley. Situated to the north of the canton, its territory covers the area of the Ticino River as far south as Biasca, in particular the valleys of Val Bedretto and Valle Leventina.
Corzoneso
Corzoneso is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1210 as Cursonexe. The municipality also contained the villages Corzoneso Piano, Casserio and Cumiasca. It had 250 inhabitants in 1682, which increased to 434 in 1836. It then decreased to 369 in 1850, 275 in 1900. It then started to increase again, reaching 322 in 1950 and 506 in 2000.
Dongio
Dongio is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1188 as Deuci. The municipality also contained the villages Marogno and Motto. It had 532 inhabitants in 1682, which decreased to 391 in 1808. It was then stable for the next two centuries, reaching 488 in 1900 and 423 in 2000.
Largario
Largario is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1207 as Largario. The municipality had 56 inhabitants in 1602, which peaked at 74 and 75 in 1808 and 1850 respectively before dropping again to 53 in 1900. It decreased further to 36 in 1950, 17 in 1980 when it was the least populous municipality in the entire Switzerland, before it increased to 27 in 1990 which only made it the least populous in Ticino.
Leontica
Leontica is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1204 as Levontega. The municipality also contained the village Comprovasco. It had 315 inhabitants in 1602, which increased to 441 in 1808 and 473 in 1850. It then declined a bit, to 295 in 1900 and 408 in 1950. In 2000 the population had dropped to 267.
Lottigna
Lottigna is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1201 as Lotingnia. The municipality also contained the village Acquarossa. It had 105 inhabitants in 1682, and from 1850 to 1950 the population count remained stable around 130. It then dropped to 79 in both 1970 and 2000.
Marolta
Marolta is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1205 as Malouta. The municipality also contained a part of the village Traversa. It had 178 inhabitants in 1808, but this decreased to 136 in 1850, 86 in 1900, 75 in 1950 and 43 in 2000.
Ponto Valentino
Ponto Valentino is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. In 2004 the municipality was merged with the other, neighboring municipalities Castro, Corzoneso, Dongio, Largario, Leontica, Lottigna, Marolta and Prugiasco to form a new and larger municipality Acquarossa.
Prugiasco
Prugiasco is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. In 2004 the municipality was merged with the other, neighboring municipalities Castro, Corzoneso, Dongio, Largario, Leontica, Lottigna, Marolta and Ponto Valentino to form a new and larger municipality Acquarossa.
Lago di Luzzone
Lago di Luzzone is a lake in Ticino, Switzerland. The reservoir has a volume of 108 million m³ and a surface area of 1.27 km². It is located in the upper Blenio valley, on the territory of the municipalities of Ghirone and Aquila. The lake lies at a height of 1,606 metres above sea level and is surrounded by peaks over 3,000 metres. The highest is Piz Terri (3,149 m), on the north-east side of the lake, seconded by the Plattenberg (3,041 m), on the east side.
Lai da Sontga Maria
Lai da Sontga Maria is a lake, located north of the Lukmanier Pass in Switzerland. It lies almost entirely in the municipality of Medel, a tiny fraction of the south-west part of the lake belonging to the municipalities of Quinto and Blenio. The reservoir has a surface area is 1.77 km². The arch dam Santa Maria was completed in 1968. The main road of the Lukmanier Pass runs along the eastern shore of the lake.

Castro, Ticino
Castro is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1200 as Castri. It had 68 inhabitants in 1567, which increased to 114 in 1808 and 129 in 1850. It then decreased to 97 in 1900, 81 in 1950 and 62 in 1970. In 2000 the population count was back on 81.
Upper Grindelwald Glacier
The Upper Grindelwald Glacier is one of the two valley glaciers south of Grindelwald on the northern side of the Bernese Alps, in the Canton of Berne (the other being the Lower Grindelwald Glacier). It has a length of about 6 km and covers an area of nearly 10 km . The Upper Grindelwald Glacier arises from a vast snow field south of Schreckhorn and north of Wetterhorn. The glacier tongue is currently at around 1,400 metres above sea level, making it one of the lowest glaciers in the Alps.
Paradies Glacier
The Paradies Glacier is a 2.27 km long glacier (2007) situated in the Lepontine Alps in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. In 1973 it had an area of 3.99 km².
Greina
The Greina (el. 2355 m. ) is a high mountain pass across the western Lepontine Alps, connecting Sumvitg in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland and Olivone in the canton of Ticino. The pass lies between the Piz Medel on the north and Pizzo Marumo, Piz Terri on the south. Greina is also a high plateau (Plaun la Greina) lying east of the pass, it is an alluvial site of national importance. The high plateau was in high risk of being flooded for a reservoir for many years.
Lag da Laus
Lag da Laus (Romansh) is a small lake within the municipality of Sumvitg in the Grisons, Switzerland. There is no raal tributary to the lake and the outflow will disappear in the underground after some distance as the area consists of landslide debris. The area of the landslide can easily be spotted from the Disentis direction. Several hiking paths or mountainbike routes lead to the area. Some people swim on hot summer days although water temperature is less than 17 degrees Celsius.
Val Medel
The Val Medel is a righthand side valley of the Surselva valley in Graubünden, Switzerland. It is approximately 15 km long and stretches from Disentis to the south, where it ends at Lai da Sontga Maria reservoir on Lukmanier Pass (1'906 m). There is a road through the valley and over Lukmanier Pass into Ticino. In the lower three kilometers of the valley form a narrow gorge, known as theMedelserschluch or Las Ruinas, which widens to the green and fertile Trog valley at the village of Curaglia.
Valser Rhine
The Valser Rhine is a source of the river Rhine in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The river originates from the Länta glacier and the Grauhorn glacier at the northern foot of the Rheinwaldhorn and initially flows through the Länta valley before it flows into the Zervreilasee reservoir. Before the construction of the reservoir, the brooks Hornbach and Canalbach would flow into Valser Rhine from the right at the village of Zervreila.
Blenio Valley
The Blenio Valley (Italian: Valle di Blenio) is a valley of the Lepontine Alps in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The valley contains the river Brenno.
Faido railway station
Faido is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino and municipality of Faido. The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, on the southern ramp up to the Gotthard Tunnel. The station is served by an hourly InterRegio train between Locarno and Arth-Goldau, which continues alternately either to Basel SBB or to Zürich HB, and by a small number of trains on line S10 of the Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia (TILO), which operate between Airolo and Chiasso.
Lavorgo railway station
Lavorgo is an infrequently served railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino and municipality of Faido. It takes its name from the nearby community of Lavorgo. The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, on the southern ramp up to the Gotthard Tunnel. The station is served by a single southbound train on line S10 of the Treni Regionali Ticino Lombardia (TILO), which operate to Bellinzona, Lugano and Chiasso.
Carì
Carì (formerly known as Maiensäss) is a village in the Swiss Alps, located in the canton of Ticino. The village is situated in the northern part of the canton, in the Leventina valley, above Faido. It belongs to the latter municipality. Carì sits on a sunny terrace at a height of 1,642 metres above sea level, on the southern flanks of Pizzo di Campello. Since 1950, the village has developed into one of the most popular alpine tourist resorts of the canton.
