Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base in Greene and Montgomery counties in the state of Ohio. It includes both Wright and Patterson Fields, which were originally Wilbur Wright Field and Fairfield Aviation General Supply Depot. Patterson Field is located approximately 10 miles northeast of Dayton; Wright Field is located approximately 5 miles northeast of Dayton. Wright-Patterson AFB is the largest base of the United States Air Force.

It was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entry into World War I in April 1917. Bockscar, sometimes called Bock's Car, is the name of the United States Army Air Forces B-29 bomber that dropped the Fat Man nuclear weapon over the Japanese city of Nagasaki in the second atomic bombing of World War II. One of 15 Silverplate B-29s used by the 509th, Bockscar was built at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Plant at Bellevue, Nebraska at what is now Offutt Air Force Base, and delivered to the United States Army Air Forces on 19 March 1945.
