Damascus University
The University of Damascus is the largest and oldest university in Syria, located in the capital Damascus and has campuses in other Syrian cities. It was founded in 1923 through the merger of the School of Medicine (established 1903) and the Institute of Law (established 1913), also making it the oldest university in modern-day Syria. Until 1958 it was named the Syrian University, but the name changed after the founding of the University of Aleppo.
Far' Falastin
Far' Falastin is a notorious Syrian prison located near Damascus. The United States used a process called extraordinary rendition to transport a number of terrorist suspects to Far' Falastin where they were subjected to interrogation that included torture. In addition, the participation of German officials in interrogations in Far' Falastin has been confirmed. It is not known whether these officials were present or participating in cases where torture was applied to prisoners.
Bab al-Saghir
Bāb Saghīr, also called "Goristan-e-Ghariban", is an ancient cemetery and street in Damascus, Syria, with tombs on either side of the road. It is located in the Dimashq neighborhood, southwest of Umayyad Mosque.
Faculty of Medicine of Damascus University
The Faculty of Medicine of Damascus University, founded in 1903, was the first university college established in Syria. The school moved to Beirut temporarily during World War I. At one point later it was called the Arab Medical Institute.
Revolutionary Youth Union
Revolutionary Youth Union is the youth organization of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party in Syria. The chairman of the organisation is Dr. Adnan Arbash. Joining organisation starts mostly within the year 10 at schools and it is the partisan's track for active membership in the Ba'ath Party after – at least – 3 years of ideological preparation. RYU publishes al-Maseera newspaper and manage a nation-wide properties and investments (e.g. backpacker hostels).
Faculty of Informatics of Damascus University
The Faculty of Informatics of Damascus University is the first faculty for computer science in Syria. It was established in 1999 as a part of Damascus University, and it awards bachelor's degrees after ten semesters of study, and master's degrees after an extra four semesters. Like most other faculties in Syrian public universities, study plans are fixed. Students can choose among three disciplines beginning from their 7th Semester, viz.
Darayya
Darayya is a Syrian city administratively belonging to Rif Dimashq. Darayya has an altitude of 689 meters. It has a population of 75,134 as of 2004, making it the 19th largest city per geographical entity in Syria. It is sometimes regarded as a suburb of Damascus. Patriarch Gregory III Laham, the spiritual leader of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church was born here in 15 December 1933 as Lutfy Laham.
Al-Jalaa Stadium
Al-Jalaa Stadium is a stadium located in Damascus, Syria. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It serves as a home ground of Al-Shorta SC Damascus. The stadium holds 12,000 spectators.
Darayya District
Darayya District is a district of the Rif Dimashq Governorate in Syria. At the 2004 officical census, the district had a population of 260,961. The centre of the district is the city of Darayya.
Bab al-Jabiyah
Bab al-Jabiya or the Gate of Jupiter is one of the eight ancient city-gates of Damascus, Syria. Bab al-Jabiya was the main entrance on the city's west side. The gate opens on Medhat Pasha Souq, which is the modern western half of the Street Called Straight, the Roman east-west artery, which still connects it to Bab Sharqi (the Roman "Gate of the Sun").

The Cabinet of Syria is the chief executive body of the Syrian Arab Republic. According to the Constitution of Syria: Section 2 The Council of Ministers Article 115 [Cabinet Cabinet] (1) The cabinet is the state's highest executive and administrative body. It consists of the President of the Council of Ministers, his deputies, and the ministers. It supervises the execution of the laws and regulations and the work of the state machinery and institutions.
Bayt al-Aqqad
Bayt al-Aqqad (Aqqad House) is an old Damascene house that hosts the Danish Institute in Damascus, Syria. The history of the building is more than 2000 years: Remains of the theatre of Herod the Great were found in the outer walls and now forms a part of the wall in the secretary’s office. Other parts of the house include the northern and southern buildings which were built in the late 15th century in a late Mamluk style and decoration.
Mezzeh
Mezzeh is a municipality and a relatively new neighborhood of Damascus, Syria. It lies to the southwest of central Damascus, along the Mezzeh highway. It started gaining importance when the French constructed the Mezzeh airbase there, which was the main airport in Damascus until Damascus International Airport was opened. It also held the notorious Mezzeh prison until 2000. The current presidential palace in on the top of Mount Mezzeh and overlooks all of Damascus.
Sinan Pasha Mosque (Damascus)
The Sinan Pasha Mosque is an early Ottoman-era mosque in Damascus, Syria, located along Suq Sinaniyya Street.
Hejaz Railway Station
Hejaz Railway Station is a main railway station in central Damascus, Syria close to the Marjeh Square. It was built by the Ottomans between 1913 and 1917 as the northern terminus of the Hejaz railway. The railway was intended to ferry pilgrims to Medina and was designed by the Spanish architect Fernando de Aranda. The station's interior has a beautiful decorated ceiling.
Al-Hariqa
Al-Hariqa is a neighborhood in Damascus, Syria. It lies inside the walls of the old city south of the Citadel of Damascus between the late-Ottoman-era markets of al-Hamidiyah Souq and Medhat Pasha Souq. The neighborhood was known as Sidi Amoud after a famous holy man who was buried there. It was called al-Hariqa (Conflagration) after the area was completely burned down in 1925 under French bombing in response to the Great Syrian Revolt. It is a commercial hub famous for its clothing markets.
Al-Shaghour
Al-Shaghour is a neighborhood located in the old walled city of Damascus, Syria. Al-Shaghour is one of the oldest recorded neighborhoods in the city. Parts of the neighborhood made up the Jewish quarter, as it had the largest Jewish community in the city. The neighborhood is also home for many of the prominent Shiite families in Damascus. Al-Ameen street, named after a prominent Shiite figure, is the main road in the neighborhood and accommodates the market place and the main shops.
Al-Midan
Al-Midan is a neighbourhood and a municipality located in Damascus, Syria, just south of the old walled city of Damascus very near the modern city centre. Its streets and alleys are full of heritage and history due to the age of the neighbourhood. Throughout history, its people fought alongside their brothers from other neighbourhoods to protect Damascus. Also, there are many great Damascene scholars who were born here.
Al Assad University Hospital
Al Assad University Hospital in Damascus is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Syria. It was founded in 1988 and is run by the Ministry of Higher Education. The hospital is affiliated with Damascus University.

Tadamon is a neighbourhood of Damascus, Syria. According to the Syria Central Bureau of Statistics, Tadamon had a population of 86,793 in the 2004 census. The neighborhood has been active in the Syrian uprising.

Qanawat (Damascus)
Qanawat is a quarted/district in the Syrian capital Damascus. It is located west of the walled city called Old Damascus. Its name goes back to the historic water canal raised up an arcade along Qanawat Street, and passing through the quarter from the west towards the Old City in the east. The headquarters of the Damascus Province Police is located at the neighburhood at Khaled bin al-Walid street . On July 2012, during the Syrian uprising, the Free Syrian Army Rebels attacked the compound.
