Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp
Mauthausen Concentration Camp grew to become a large group of Germany concentration camps that was built around the villages of Mauthausen and Gusen in Upper Austria, roughly 20 kilometres east of the city of Linz. Its history ran from the time of the Anschluss in 1938 to the last week of the Second World War. Initially a single camp at Mauthausen, it expanded over time and by the summer of 1940, Mauthausen had become one of the largest labour camp complexes in German-controlled Europe.
Enns (river)
The Enns is a southern tributary of the Danube River, joining northward at Enns, Austria. The Enns River spans 254 kilometres, in a flat-J-shape. It flows from its source near the towns of Gasthofalm and Flachau, generally eastward through Radstadt, Schladming, and Liezen, then turns north near Hieflau, to flow past Weyer and Ternberg into Steyr, and further north to the Danube at Enns (see map in References).
Gusen concentration camp
Gusen is the name of the biggest and most brutal Nazi concentration camp complex on Austrian territory. Originally called "Mauthausen II", the camp consisted of three camps and toward the end of the war, was annexed to Mauthausen concentration camp. It was part of the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp complex.
Lungitz
Lungitz is a village in the community of Katsdorf, Perg district of Upper Austria, Austria. During World War II it was the site of slave labour and the "Gusen III" sub-camp of the Mauthausen-Gusen system later on. Although camp Gusen III was not opened earlier than December 1944, inmtes of camp Gusen worked in a brick production plant at Lungitz already in 1940. In this early period, these inmates drove by truck every day from Gusen via St. Georgen to Lunigtz.
Gusen (river)
The Gusen is a small river in upper Austria. The big and the small Gusen flow together at Breitenbruck. At Langenstein the Gusen flows into the Danube.
