Battle of Gavere
The Battle of Gavere was fought near Semmerzake in Belgium on July 23, 1453 between an army under the Philip III, Duke of Burgundy and the rebelling city of Ghent. The army of the duke came out victorious and around 16,000 citizens of Ghent died. The battle of Gavere was part of the Revolt of Ghent.
Deurle
Deurle is part of the municipality of Sint-Martens-Latem located in the Flemish part of Belgium. Deurle is a picturesque small village near the borders of the river Lys and was added to Sint Martens Latem in 1977, counting then around 2000 inhabitants. Many well-known Flemish artists have lived in this village nested near a forest. Today, it is one of the best residential areas around Gent (Ghent), also counting numerous restaurants and bistros.
Rooigembeek
The Rooigembeek is a small stream in East Flanders, Belgium. It is a left tributary of the Scheldt. In its upper course, it is called Leedsebeek. In British texts about the 1708 Battle of Oudenaarde, the stream is called Norken River, possibly after the Flemish village Nokere, some 9 kilometer away. Its source is in Wortegem, west of Oudenaarde. It flows in northwestern direction, and flows into the Scheldt in Asper, north of Oudenaarde. The Rooigembeek is about 12 km long.
