Madonna of Bruges
The Madonna of Bruges is a marble sculpture by Michelangelo of Mary with the infant Jesus. Michelangelo's depiction of the Madonna and Child differs significantly from earlier representations of the same subject, which tended to feature a pious Virgin smiling down on an infant held in her arms. Instead, Jesus stands upright, almost unsupported, only loosely restrained by Mary's right hand, and appears to be about to step away from his mother and into the world.
Belfry of Bruges
The belfry of Bruges, or Belfort, is a medieval bell tower in the historical centre of Bruges, Belgium. One of the city's most prominent symbols, the belfry formerly housed a treasury and the municipal archives, and served as an observation post for spotting fires and other danger. A narrow, steep staircase of 366 steps, accessible by the public for an entry fee, leads to the top of the 83-metre-high building, which leans about a metre to the east.
Church of Our Lady, Bruges
The Church of Our Lady in Bruges, Belgium, dates mainly from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Its tower, at 122.3 meters in height, remains the tallest structure in the city and the second tallest brickwork tower in the world (the tallest being the St. Martin's Church in Landshut, Germany). In the choir space behind the high altar are the tombs of Charles the Bold, last Valois Duke of Burgundy, and his daughter, the duchess Mary.
The English Theatre of Bruges
The English Theatre of Bruges was an English-language theatre in Bruges, Belgium. The theatre opened on 1 May 2007 in de Kuipersstraat with a production of "Caviar & Chips". The venue was an old cinema. After six months the theatre closed for a year and a half, to reopen in the summer of 2009 in a more intimate venue on the Walplein in Bruges. However, in October 2010 the theatre closed its doors again. The Artistic Director of the theatre was Clare Allen.
Roman Catholic Diocese of Bruges
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Bruges, (Brugge) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic church in Belgium. The diocese was restored after the French Revolution in 1834. Its territory coincides with West Flanders. It is a suffragan of the archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels. Its see is Sint-Salvator Cathedral.
Markt (Bruges)
The Markt ("Market Square") of Bruges is located in the heart of the city and covers an area of about 1 hectare. Some historical highlights around the square include the 12th-century belfry and the Provincial Court (originally the Waterhall, which in 1787 was demolished and replaced by a classicist building that from 1850 served as provincial court and after a fire in 1878 was rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style in 1887.
Basilica of the Holy Blood
The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923.
St. Donatian's Cathedral
The St. Donatian's Cathedral was a Roman Catholic cathedral in Bruges, Belgium. Located on the Burg, one of the main squares in the city, it was the largest church in Bruges. The cathedral was destroyed in 1799 in the wake of the dissolution of the Diocese of Bruges during the aftermath of the French Revolution.

The Brugse Vrije was a castellany in the county of Flanders, often called in English 'the Franc of Bruges'. It included the area around Bruges, and was bordered by the North Sea, the Westerschelde and the Yser river. The city of Bruges was separated from the castellany in 1127. Since then the city and the Vrije were considered as separate common law areas. The Brugse Vrije was a rich agricultural region.
Choco-Story
Choco-Story, the Chocolate Museum in Bruges, Belgium, is located in the sixteenth-century "Huis de Crone" building on Sint-Jansplein (at the intersection of Wijnzakstraat and Sint-Jansstraat) in central Bruges. This building was originally the home of a wine tavern. It later housed a bakery and, most recently, a furniture making shop. Choco-Story was opened by Eddie Van Belle and his son, Cedric.
