Oxley is a south-western suburb of Brisbane located approximately 11 km from the Brisbane CBD. It was named after the early Australian explorer John Oxley. The suburb supports a mix of residential, retail and industrial land use. Oxley is bounded to the north by the Brisbane River and Oxley Creek flows along the eastern edge. In the east the environment is shaped by flood plains, which experience major flooding and flash-flooding.

Larapinta is a suburb located in the southern regions of Brisbane, on the boundary with Logan City. The suburb is sparsely populated, being mostly bushland, save for the recent industrial development. The industrial area has become a new addition to the expansion of Brisbane's industry, including the purpose built South Brisbane Industrial Park in nearby Heathwood. Larapinta means "flowing water" and was so named because the north and west of the suburb is bounded by Oxley Creek.

Camp Columbia

Camp Columbia was a United States Army military camp located in Wacol, near Brisbane, built during World War II to accommodate American troops. The Sixth US Army Headquarters was stationed there and it was an Officer Candidate School from 1942 to 1945. After World War II it was used by the Australian military and then served as a migrant reception and training centre. The camp was then known as the "Wacol East Dependants Holding Camp for Displaced Persons".
