The school was founded in 1907 by the Xaverian Brothers, an order named for St. Francis Xavier founded by Theodore James Ryken in 1839. St. John's was formerly a combination commuter-boarding school school but ended its residential program in 1975.

Judge Samuel Holten House

The Judge Samuel Holten House (circa 1670) is a historic house located at 171 Holten Street, Danvers, Massachusetts. It is currently owned by the Daughters of the American Revolution, and open by appointment. The colonial site first belonged to Richard Ingersoll (died 1644). In 1670 his wife left the land to her second husband upon her death, and thence to his daughter Sarah, whose second husband Joseph Holten deeded the lot (and perhaps also the house) to his son Benjamin Holten.

2006 Danvers Chemical fire

The 2006 Danvers Chemical fire took place at approximately 2:45 am EST on 23 November 2006. An explosion occurred at the plant of solvent and ink manufacturer CAI Inc. , located in the Danversport area of Danvers, Massachusetts, which it shared with paint manufacturer Arnel. The explosion was caught on security camera and was reportedly heard up to 50 miles away in southern Maine and New Hampshire. Arnel ceased operations after the blast.

Beverly Cotton Manufactory

Beverly Cotton Manufactory was the first cotton mill built in America, and the largest cotton mill to be built during its era. It was built hoping for economic success, but reached a downturn due to technical limitations of the then early production process and limitations of the machines being used. Being the birthplace and testing grounds of the cotton milling industry at the time, it has been called the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution.
