The 1948 U.S. Open was the 48th U.S. Open, held June 10–12 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. Ben Hogan won the first of his four U.S. Open titles at the course that would become known as "Hogan's Alley. " Although Sam Snead held the lead after 36 holes, Hogan dominated the final two rounds, shooting 68-69 on Saturday for a total of 276, two shots ahead of runner-up Jimmy Demaret. Hogan decimated the U.S.
1995 PGA Championship
The 1995 PGA Championship was the 77th PGA Championship, held from August 10–13 at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, California. Steve Elkington shot a final round 64 (–7) and won his only major championship in a sudden-death playoff. Elkington sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole (par 4, 18th) to defeat Colin Montgomerie.
1983 PGA Championship
The 1983 PGA Championship was the 65th PGA Championship, held August 4–7 at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, California. Hal Sutton won his only major championship, one stroke ahead of runner-up Jack Nicklaus. It was the second major at Riviera, which hosted the U.S. Open in 1948. The PGA Championship returned to the course in 1995.
