Geography of the Netherlands
The geography of the European part of Netherlands is in that much of its land has been reclaimed from the sea and is below sea level, protected by dikes. Another factor that has influenced its physical appearance is that the country is among the most densely populated on Earth. It is ranked 15th overall on that scale, but is behind only three countries having a population over 10 million. Consequently, the Netherlands is highly urbanised.
Scottish Court in the Netherlands
The Scottish court in the Netherlands was a special sitting of the High Court of Justiciary set up under Scots law in a former United States Air Force base called Camp Zeist in Utrecht, in the Netherlands, for the trial of two Libyans charged with 270 counts of murder in connection with the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988. A school on the former base was converted into a judicial court for the trial.
Soestdijk
Soestdijk was a village in the municipality of Soest, Utrecht, Netherlands and gives its name to Paleis Soestdijk, which from 1937 to 2004 was the residence of Princess and later Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard (who both died in 2004). Most of Soestdijk is now a part of the city of Soest. A smaller part of the former village, including the palace, is part of the municipality of Baarn.
Soestdijk Palace
Soestdijk Palace is a former palace of the Dutch Royal Family. It consists of a central block and two wings. Although named after the village of Soestdijk, which is largely in the municipality of Soest, the Soestdijk Palace is just north of the border in the municipality of Baarn in the province of Utrecht. It was the home for over six decades of the late Queen Juliana and her husband, the late Prince Bernhard until their deaths in 2004.
Koppelpoort
The Koppelpoort is a medieval gate in the Dutch town Amersfoort. Completed around 1425, the gate combines land- and water-gates, and is part of the second city wall of Amersfoort, which was constructed between 1380 and 1450.
Den Dolder
Den Dolder is a town in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Zeist, and lies about 4 km northeast of Bilthoven. Den Dolder has a railway station on the route between Amersfoort and Utrecht and is best known for its mental institutions such as Dennendal and the Willem Arntz Hoeve.
Soestduinen
Soestduinen is a town in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Soest, and lies about 3 km south of Soest. In 2001, the town of Soestduinen had 113 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.07 km², and contained 45 residences.
Eembrugge
Eembrugge is a small village on the river Eem, east of Baarn. It received city rights in 1300. Eembrugge is partially in the municipality of Eemnes, partially in Baarn.
Drakesteijn
Drakesteijn or Drakestein is a small castle at 9 Slotlaan in the hamlet of Lage Vuursche, in the municipality of Baarn. The owner is Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. Beatrix bought the castle in 1959, when she was the Crown Princess, and took up residence in 1963. After her marriage in 1966 she continued to live there with her husband, Prince Claus and later their three sons as well.
The Golden Cage (TV series)
De Gouden Kooi (The Golden Cage) was the original concept and working title for Big Brother. In 2006, it was revived and turned into another format of reality television. The idea for De Gouden Kooi was born on 4 September 1997 during a brainstorm session at the John de Mol Produkties production house, an independent branch of Endemol. Participants were John de Mol himself, Patrick Scholtze, Bart Römer and his brother Paul Römer.
Soesterberg Royal Netherlands Air Force Base
Soesterberg Air Base was a Royal Netherlands Air Force military airbase located in Soesterberg, 14 kilometres east-northeast of Utrecht. It was first established as an airfield in 1911, and in 1913, the Dutch Army bought the field and established the Army Aviation Division. For almost 40 years, United States Air Force facilities at Soesterberg, named Camp New Amsterdam was a major front line USAFE airbase during the Cold War.
Dutch Cavalry Museum
The Dutch Cavalry Museum is located in the centre of The Netherlands in the city of Amersfoort. The museum is hosted in two large buildings at the Bernhardkazerne army barracks. The collection contains small objects, like uniforms, firearms, silver, paintings, scale models, etc. , and larger objects, like vehicles, armoured cars, tanks and related equipment, that were or still are in use with the cavalry of the Royal Dutch Army.
Bosch en Duin
Bosch en Duin is a village in the municipality Zeist, in the Dutch province Utrecht. The village is located north of the town of Zeist, and borders Huis ter Heide to the east and Den Dolder to the north. It has 2,540 inhabitants (2006). The village is entirely made up of expensive estates surrounded by forest. The estate De Horst in Bosch en Duin, designed by architect Karel de Bazel, is now a protected landmark. Dutch journalist Willem Oltmans grew up here.
Eemdijk
Eemdijk is a small village on the river Eem in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It lies in the municipality of Bunschoten, about 3 km east of Bunschoten-Spakenburg, and has a population of about 800. Formerly, most of the population consisted of farmers or factory workers. The village has a small ferry, which is still in use (except on Sundays). The singer Drs. P recorded the video clip for his song De veerpont ("The ferry") in Eemdijk.
Nieuwland, Amersfoort
Nieuwland is a district in the Dutch city Amersfoort. The project finished end 2001 when the area with 4500 houses was completed.
The Mondriaan House
The Mondriaan House is a museum in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, in the house where Piet Mondriaan was born in 1872. The museum lies in the historical centre of Amersfoort. The building of the Christian primary school, where the father of Mondriaan was headmaster, has also been incorporated in the museum building. In 1994, the house and the school were opened as a library and documentation centre.
Flehite
Museum Flehite is the historical museum of Amersfoort and Eemland in the Netherlands. The museum was founded in 1880 by the "Oudheidkundige Vereniging Flehite" (Archeological Association Flehite) (1878). In 1890, the museum moved to the first of the current three-part building on the Breestraat (Breestreet). Since 1976, the museum has been managed by a separate organization.

Huis ter Heide, Utrecht
Huis ter Heide is a village in the central Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Zeist, Utrecht, about 2 km northeast of the centre of the town Zeist. Huis ter Heide has a population of about 1400. The first McDonald's Drive-in restaurant in the Netherlands is located in Huis ter Heide. Den Dolder–Baarn railway
The Den Dolder–Baarn railway is a railway line in the Netherlands running from Den Dolder to Baarn, passing through Soest. It is also called the Stichtse lijn in Dutch. It is operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen. The railway line is 11 km long. The line is single track, with a passing place at Soest Station. Militaire Luchtvaart Museum
The Militaire Luchtvaart Museum is located at Kamp van Zeist near the former Soesterberg Airforce base. It is the official museum of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. During 2006 it was decided by the Ministry of Defence to merge three military museums in the Netherlands into one Defence Museum, to be located at the former Soesterberg Airforce base. Delivery of the new museum is foreseen for late 2012.
KNVB Academy
The KNVB Academy is the Educational Department of the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB). The KNVB Academy was founded in 1996 to concentrate all educational programs for Dutch football in one body, and is headquartered at Zeist. The operations of the KNVB Academy are focused on development of coaches, referees and administrators in The Netherlands. Dutch coaching diplomas are UEFA approved.
De Hoefslag
De Hoefslag is a restaurant located in Bosch en Duin in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in the periods 1979-1980, 1987-2005 and 2009-2012. It was awarded two Michelin stars in the period 1981-1986. GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 16.0 out of 20 points. De Hoefslag is a member of Les Patrons Cuisiniers. Present head chef is Karl van Baggem.
De Kastanjehof
Restaurant De Kastjehof is a hotel-restaurant located in Lage Vuursche, in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1990 and 1991. In the period 2000-2002 the restaurant was awarded a Bib Gourmand. At the time of the Michelin stars, head chef was Wulf Engel. In 1991, he sold the restaurant to his, by then, ex-wife Marianne and left the restaurant. As a consequences, the restaurant lost its Michelin star.
De Saffraan
De Saffraan is a restaurant located in Amersfoort in the Netherlands. It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in the period 2010–present. GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 15 out of 20 points. Owner and head chef of De Saffraan is Kars van Wechem. The restaurant is located in a 100 year old clipper named "Hoop op Welvaart", which is moored at at quay of Kleine Koppel in Amersfoort. The clipper is completely renovated and adjusted to its role as restaurant.
