Staphorst is a municipality and a town in the eastern Netherlands.
Steenwijk
Steenwijk is a city in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland. It is the largest town of the municipality. Steenwijk received city rights in 1327. In the Eighty Years' War (1568–1648) it was conquered by the Spaniards in 1581, but regained by the Dutch in 1592. Steenwijk was a separate municipality until 2001, when it merged with Brederwiede and IJsselham.
Hasselt, Overijssel
Hasselt is a city about 7 km north of Zwolle, in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It received city rights in 1252. It became a member of the Hanseatic League around 1350. The city suffered an economic downfall from about 1550 on, as other cities proved to be better situated and equipped for trade and commerce. Hasselt is the capital city of the municipality Zwartewaterland. In 2001 The municipalities Hasselt, Genemuiden and Zwartsluis are united in one municipality Zwartewaterland.
Genemuiden
Genemuiden is a city located in the north western part of the Province of Overijssel. It received city rights in 1275 which is also the first time Genemuiden gets mentioned in history. It stayed independent up until 2001 when, despite fierce opposition of its inhabitants, it was forced to merge with the smaller, neighbouring villages of Zwartsluis and Hasselt to form the municipality of Zwartewaterland.
Zwartsluis
Zwartsluis is a small city in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Zwartewaterland, at the mouth of the Zwarte Water River and the Meppelerdiep canal. The town is home to many recreational boats, as well as a heritage fleet of fishing and cargo vessels. The Arembergergracht links the town with the Beulaker and Belter lakes and a multitude of smaller bodies of water just north, created by peat digging.

Giethoorn
Giethoorn is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, about 5 km southwest of Steenwijk. Giethoorn used to be a carfree town known in the Netherlands as "Venice of the North" or "Venice of the Netherlands". It became locally famous, especially after 1958, when the Dutch film maker Bert Haanstra made his famous comedy "Fanfare" there.
Nijeveen
Nijeveen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Meppel, and lies about 5 km northwest of Meppel. Nijeveen was a separate municipality until 1998, when it was merged with Meppel. Since 1976 there is a German windmill named De Sterrenberg which is the only one in all Netherlands with the cap winded by a fantail. In 2008, Nijeveen had 3880 inhabitants.
Brederwiede
Brederwiede is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It was created in a merger of Blokzijl, Giethoorn, Vollenhove, and Wanneperveen in 1973, and existed until it became a part of Steenwijk in 2001.

Steenwijkerwold is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, about 5 km northwest of Steenwijk. Steenwijkerwold was a separate municipality until 1973, when it became a part of Steenwijk.

Wanneperveen is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, about 4 km west of Meppel. Wanneperveen was a separate municipality until 1973, when it became a part of Brederwiede. And in 2001 Brederwiede joined the nearby Steenwijk to form Steenwijkerland
Baarlo, Zwartewaterland
Baarlo is a small village in the eastern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality Zwartewaterland, Overijssel, about 4 km northeast of the town of Zwartsluis. The village lies on the Meppelerdiep canal between Zwartsluis and Meppel. There is another village with the same name in Overijsel, about 15 km to the northwest.

Kop van Overijssel
The Kop van Overijssel is a region in the very northwestern part of the Dutch province of Overijssel. In past times it comprised a wider area, the municipalities of Kampen, Zwartewaterland and Staphorst also belonging to it. The Kop van Overijssel has about 43,000 inhabitants and an area of about 322 km², of which a tenth is water. The 'capital' is Steenwijk.

De Weerribben-Wieden National Park is a national park in the Steenwijkerland municipality of the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. Comprising the largest bog of northwestern Europe, the park consists of two areas, De Weerribben and De Wieden, and has an area of roughly 100 square kilometres . The park was founded in 1882, but De Wieden was added only in 2009.
