Baarlo is a small village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality Steenwijkerland, about 1 km northwest of the city of Blokzijl. Until the Noordoostpolder was reclaimed, the village lay on the dyke of the IJsselmeer. According to the 19th century historian A.J. van der Aa, it had about 120 inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century. It was also called "Kuinderdijk en Baarlo" then.

Marijenkampen

At the beginning of the 20th century the area was called Huttenberg and was overgrown with heath. The first inhabitants were people who had been banned from the neighbouring colony Willemsoord, founded by the Society of Beneficence. These inhabitants settled in and led an independent life. Nowadays about 250 people live in Marijenkampen.

De Weerribben-Wieden National Park is a national park in the Steenwijkerland municipality of the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. Comprising the largest bog of northwestern Europe, the park consists of two areas, De Weerribben and De Wieden, and has an area of roughly 100 square kilometres . The park was founded in 1882, but De Wieden was added only in 2009.
