Karl Lennart Oesch

Karl Lennart Oesch (8 August 1892 – 28 March 1978) was one of the leading Finnish generals during World War II. He held a string of high staff assignments and front commands, and at the end of the Continuation War fully two-thirds of the Finnish ground forces were under his command. Oesch earned a reputation of being able to deal with difficult situations, a trait that Mannerheim used to the full.

Hietaniemi cemetery

The Hietaniemi cemetery is located mainly in the Lapinlahti quarter and partly in the Etu-Töölö district of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is the location for Finnish state funeral services. The cemetery includes a large military cemetery section for soldiers from the capital fallen in the wars against the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany: in the Winter War (1939–1940), the Continuation War (1941–1944) and the Lapland War (1944–1945).

Ruoholahti is a quarter in . Ruoholahti is located in the southwestern part of the central city area of Helsinki, close to the Lauttasaari island, and it functions as the principal connection between the Helsinki city centre and the city of Espoo to the west. Mäntyniemi

Mäntyniemi is one of the three official residences of the President of Finland besides the Presidential Palace and Kultaranta. Mäntyniemi was finished in 1993. Four Finnish presidents have lived there: Mauno Koivisto, Martti Ahtisaari, Tarja Halonen, and the incumbent Sauli Niinistö. When president Urho Kekkonen resigned in 1981 due to a serious illness, he stayed in the then official residence Tamminiemi until his death in 1986.

Meilahti

Meilahti is a neighbourhood of Helsinki between Mannerheimintie (the main entrance road to Helsinki) and a bay named Seurasaarenselkä. Most of the houses in Meilahti were built in the 1930s and 1940s. Meilahti is home to over 6700 people, including Sauli Niinistö, the President of Finland, who lives in Mäntyniemi, the President's official residence. Jyrki Katainen, the Prime Minister of Finland, also has an official residence in Meilahti, namely Kesäranta.

Copterline Oy was Finland's largest helicopter airline. In 2004 the company ferried over 75,000 passengers. Ruoholahti metro station

Ruoholahti metro station is a station on the Helsinki Metro. It serves the district of Ruoholahti in Helsinki's southwestern city centre. Ruoholahti is the westernmost metro station in Helsinki, and will continue to be until the extension to Espoo, known as Länsimetro ("Western Metro") under construction is brought into use. The station was opened on 16 August 1993, designed by Jouko Kontio and Seppo Kilpiä. It is located 1.2 kilometres from the Kamppi metro station.

Lepakko

Lepakko or Lepakkoluola was a place for independent youth culture in Helsinki, Finland, functioning from 1979 to 1999. The building was mostly used for rock concerts. Many Finnish rock artists came into popular knowledge through Lepakko. Lepakko also had a sauna and on special "steam club" nights one could enjoy sauna and music. The main organiser of the activity was ELMU ry, the Live Music Association of Helsinki. Lepakko also hosted a radio station, Radio City, from 1985 to 1999.

Seurasaari

Seurasaari is an island and a district in Helsinki, Finland, known mostly as the location of the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, which consists of old, mainly wooden buildings transplanted from elsewhere in Finland and placed in the dense forest landscape of the island. Pihlajasaari

Pihlajasaari is an island in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Pihlajasaari actually consists of two separate islands connected with a bridge. The islands can only be reached by boat, and in summer there is a privately operated commuter boat travelling between Kaivopuisto and Pihlajasaari every couple of hours. Pihlajasaari is an outdoor island with no permanent residents. It is mostly intended as a holiday resort.

Kaapelitehdas

Kaapelitehdas (Finnish for "the Cable Factory", also called simply Kaapeli, Swedish: Kabelfabriken) is a famous building in Ruoholahti, Helsinki, near the bridge to Lauttasaari. The building was originally constructed as a cable factory in 1939–1954 for Suomen Kaapelitehdas Oy (Finnish Cable Works), hence the name. Cable manufacturing started in 1943 and was discontinued in 1987. Suomen Kaapelitehdas was acquired by Suomen Gummitehdas Oy (Finnish Rubber Works) in 1922.

Tamminiemi (Villa Ekudden in Swedish), is a villa located in the Meilahti district of Helsinki. It was one of the official residences of the President of Finland from 1940 until 1981. From that date, until his death, it served as the residence of President Urho Kekkonen. It is now the Urho Kekkonen Museum. It is located in a park by the sea. Tamminiemi's floor area is about 450 square metres.

Kesäranta

Kesäranta (in Swedish Villa Bjälbo) is the official residence of the Prime Minister of Finland. It is located in the Meilahti area of Helsinki, overlooking a bay on the north-west side of the city. The Finnish name Kesäranta means "summer shore". The residence is owned by the Finnish state through Senate Properties. Designed and built in 1873 as the summer villa of architect Frans Ludvig Calonius, the building was originally named Villa Bjälbo.

Koivusaari

Koivusaari is an island and a district of Helsinki, Finland. Koivusaari is the westernmost district of the entire southern part of Helsinki. Directly west from it is a bridge across the Keilalahti bay, crossing the municipality border to Espoo, after which comes Keilaniemi, the easternmost district of southern Espoo. Koivusaari metro station will be a Helsinki Metro station when the Länsimetro extension is implemented, most probably in early 2013.

Töölö Rowing Stadium

The Töölö Rowing Stadium is a rowing and canoeing venue located a kilometer from Helsinki Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland. Originally constructed for the 1940 Summer Olympics that were cancelled in the wake of what became known as World War II, the venue was not approved by the International Rowing Federation (FISA) to being exposed to sea breezes. The rowing events were moved to the Meilahti as a result while the canoeing events took place.
