Karl Lennart Oesch

Karl Lennart Oesch (8 August 1892 – 28 March 1978) was one of the leading Finnish generals during World War II. He held a string of high staff assignments and front commands, and at the end of the Continuation War fully two-thirds of the Finnish ground forces were under his command. Oesch earned a reputation of being able to deal with difficult situations, a trait that Mannerheim used to the full.

Töölö

Töölö is the collective name for the neighbourhoods Etu-Töölö and Taka-Töölö in Helsinki, Finland. The neighbourhoods are located next to the city centre, occupying the western side of the Helsinki Peninsula. Etu-Töölö, the southern neighbourhood, borders Kamppi and is the location of the Finnish Parliament House. Taka-Töölö, the northern neighbourhood, borders Meilahti and Laakso. Contrary to popular belief, Töölö is not the official name of any district or neighbourhood in Helsinki.

Sibelius Academy

Hietaniemi cemetery

The Hietaniemi cemetery is located mainly in the Lapinlahti quarter and partly in the Etu-Töölö district of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is the location for Finnish state funeral services. The cemetery includes a large military cemetery section for soldiers from the capital fallen in the wars against the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany: in the Winter War (1939–1940), the Continuation War (1941–1944) and the Lapland War (1944–1945).

Kamppi

Kamppi is a neighbourhood in the centre of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. The name originally referred to a small area known as the "Kamppi field" (see below), but according to the current official designation, "Kamppi" encompasses a much larger area with a population of 10,000 in 2004. Kamppi metro station

The Kamppi metro station is a station on the Helsinki Metro. In addition to serving the area around Kamppi in central Helsinki, the station is integrated with the Kamppi Center bus terminal and shopping complex. The station was opened on 1 March 1983, designed by Eero Hyvämäki, Jukka Karhunen, and Risto Parkkinen. It is located 1.2 kilometres from the Ruoholahti metro station, and 0.5 kilometres from the Central Railway Station.

Kamppi Center

Kamppi Centre is a complex in the Kamppi district in the centre of Helsinki, designed by various architects, the main designer, however, being Juhani Pallasmaa. Tennispalatsi

Tennispalatsi (Swedish: Tennispalatset; lit. Tennis Palace), is a cultural and recreational center in Kamppi, Helsinki, Finland. It houses a Finnkino movie theatre, the Art Museum Tennis Palace, the Museum of Cultures, and small shops. Tennispalatsi was built in 1938 in preparation for the 1940 Summer Olympics. The functionalist building, which had four tennis courts, was designed by Helge Lundström. In the 1952 Summer Olympics the basketball preliminary games were held in Tennispalatsi.

Temppeliaukio Church

Helsinki Synagogue

Sähkötalo (lit. Electric Building) is the name of the building located in downtown Helsinki, in Kamppi, that serves as the headquarters of Helsingin Energia. The building was designed by Alvar Aalto. Since October 2007, the bottom floors of the building have been home to stores accessible from Kamppi Center by an underground pedestrian tunnel running underneath Fredrikinkatu.

Saint Barbara Altarpiece

The Saint Barbara Altarpiece is a medieval altarpiece attributed to Master Francke. Its known provenance starts at the medieval church in Kalanti in Finland Proper where it stood until 1883. According to local oral tradition, collected in the 19th century, the altarpiece was found floating in the sea outside Kalanti. The altarpiece is now located at the National Museum of Finland.

Hämäläis-Osakunta (HO, colloquially Hämis) is one of the 15 student nations at the University of Helsinki, Finnish-speaking and established in 1653 at The Royal Academy of Turku. In 1828, the Academy moved to Helsinki adopting the name university and Hämäläis-Osakunta moved there along with the other nations. HO represents the historic region of Tavastia, so it recruits its members actively there. The building of the nation, built in 1931, is located in Kamppi, on Urho Kekkosen katu.
