Areosa is a parish located on the Portuguese municipality of Viana do Castelo. On the 2001 census, Areosa had a total population of 4 485. The total area is 11,22 km² which gives a population density of 399,7 inhabitants per km².

The district of Viana do Castelo (Portuguese: Distrito de Viana do Castelo) is a district located in the northwest of Portugal, bordered by Spain from the north and Braga District from the south. It has an area of 2,255 km² and a population of 252,011 (2006), for a density of 111.8 inhabitants/km². The district capital is the city of Viana do Castelo.

Minho-Lima is a Portuguese NUTS3 subregion, belonging to Norte Region, between the Minho River and Lima River in the northern part of Portugal. It corresponds to the historical region of Alto Minho and is centered around its main city – Viana do Castelo (pop. 41,000). It covers an area of 2,255 km², with a population of 252,011 inhabitants (2006) for a density of 111.8 inhabitants/km². It borders to the north the Galicia autonomous region in Spain and to the south with the Ave Subregion.
Limia River
The Limia River is a river in Galicia, Spain, and Portugal, with an extension of 108 km. The source of the Limia is Talariño Mountain (975 metres), close to the Paradiña village in the Sarreaus municipality. It crosses the border into Portugal close to the Lindoso village, and reaches the Atlantic near Viana do Castelo. The Limia was considered by the Romans as the mythical Lethe.

Battle of Cerneja
The Battle of Cerneja took place at Cernesa (Cerneja), an unidentified site in Galicia, in 1139/40, between the County of Portugal and the Kingdom of León.
