Haren, Groningen
Haren is a municipality and a town in the northeastern Netherlands located in the direct urban area of the City of Groningen. Haren is a typical commuting municipality with many wealthy inhabitants. It lies on the northern part of a ridge of sand called the Hondsrug. It contains one of two dolmens in the province of Groningen (in the village of Noordlaren) and the largest botanical garden of the Netherlands called Hortus Haren.
Oosterpark Stadion
Oosterpark Stadion was the stadium of football club FC Groningen until December 2005. The all-seater stadium in Groningen's Oosterpark neighbourhood was inaugurated on September 30, 1933, and renovated in 1960, 1984 and 1987/88. The stadium has been replaced by the new, larger Euroborg stadium, and the ground it occupied is being redeveloped. The stadium's peak capacity was 22,000 spectators (in 1985). At the time of the demolition, the capacity was 11,224.
Euroborg
Euroborg is the stadium of football club FC Groningen, with a capacity of 22,329 seats and located to the south-east of Groningen. The stadium site houses a casino, movie theater, school, supermarket, and a fitness centre. A temporary railway station at the Euroborg Stadium opened in late 2007, and a permanent one is set to open in 2013. The stadium's seats are completely clad in the club's colors of green and white, with 1,000 seats available for supporters of the away team.
Ems-Occidental
Ems-Occidental is the name of a département of the First French Empire in the present Netherlands and Germany. It is named after the river Ems. It was formed in 1810, when the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France. Its territory corresponds more or less with the present Dutch provinces Groningen and Drenthe. Its capital was Groningen. The département was subdivided into the following arrondissements and cantons: Groningen, cantons: Groningen (2 cantons), Hoogezand, Leek and Zuidhorn.

Groningen Airport Eelde
Groningen Airport Eelde is a civilian airport near Eelde, in the northeastern Netherlands. It is 4.8 NM south of the city of Groningen. Though there are several scheduled services operating from the airport the majority of operations at the airport mostly comprise charter flights to holiday destinations in Greece, Portugal, Spain and Turkey. In 2012, the airport handled 208,660 passengers.
Noordlaren
Noordlaren is a small village in the municipality of Haren in the Dutch province of Groningen. In 2010 it was said to be 850 years old. In the past Noordlaren was a farming village. Nowadays there are still a few farmers in Noordlaren, but there are also many people from outside the village, that came to live in Noordlaren, because of the beautiful nature and rest.
Paterswolde
Paterswolde is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 8 km south of Groningen. The statistical area "Paterswolde", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 3760. A small part of the village, on the south end of the lake Paterwoldsemeer, lies in the province of Groningen, in the municipality of Haren.
De Punt
De Punt is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 11 km south of Groningen. The statistical area "De Punt", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 240. De Punt was the site for the 1977 Dutch train hostage crisis.

Martiniplaza, formerly Martinihal Groningen, is a complex located in the Dutch city of Groningen. It is used as an exhibition complex, theater and Sports Arena. The Sports Arena is the home of the basketball team GasTerra Flames and has a capacity of 4500.
Groninger Forum
The Groninger Forum is a project that is beginning in the city of Groningen, the Netherlands, with a planned completion in 2016. The east side of Groningen's Grote Markt was destroyed in World War II, and was replaced with buildings that have long since lost their appeal. The Groninger Forum is a new institute that will overlook the Grote Markt instead of the current buildings. It is a centre for knowledge and culture, containing the archives and a debate centre.
Oosterbroek, Groningen
Oosterbroek is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Groningen. It was created in a merger of Noordbroek and Zuidbroek in 1965. In 1990, the municipalities of Meeden and Muntendam were also added to Oosterbroek, which was renamed to Menterwolde a year later.
Onnen
Onnen is a village in the municipality Haren, Groningen in the Netherlands. There are some picturesque farms and windmills in the village. Onnen is an esdorp . The Onner ash lies a considerable distance from the actual village (an ash generally lies flat outside a village). The Groningen – Assen railway lies near Onnen.
University Medical Center Groningen
The University Medical Center Groningen, or UMCG (Dutch: Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen), formerly Groningen University Hospital, is the main hospital of the city of Groningen, Netherlands. The medical centre is affiliated with the University of Groningen. It is one of the largest hospitals in the World, offering supraregional tertiary care to the northern part of the Netherlands. The medical center employs almost 17000 people and counts almost 1400 beds.
Glimmen
Glimmen is a village that is part of the municipality of Haren, which lies in the province Groningen in the Netherlands. It is 10 kilometres to the city of Groningen and 5 kilometre to Haren. Glimmen has about 1700 inhabitants. The river Drentsche Aa flows past the village, nearby the Huis te Glimmen ('House in Glimmen), a stately home on the site of a mediaeval castle. The Appèlbergen is a wood to the east of the village.
Drentsche Aa
The Drentsche Aa is a river rising in the Dutch province of Drenthe, flowing through Drenthe and for the last part the province of Groningen. It ends in the Schipsloot near Haren, which flows into the Noord-Willemskanaal, however originally it ended into the Selwerderdiep. The water finally ends in the Lauwersmeer and Waddenzee.
Appèlbergen
The Appèlbergen is a wood to the east of the village of Glimmen. It's located in the province of Groningen. In the Second World War, the Germans buried 34 people secretly after they had killed them. Of the 34 people, 15 have never been recovered. Between 1949 and 2004, there were several attempts to find the buried people. In 2004, there has been placed a monument for the victims.
Winschoterdiep
The Winschoterdiep is a canal in the province Groningen of the Netherlands. It leads to the Rensel, which is actually part of this canal. Construction was started in 1618 and finished in 1634. The Winschoterdiep's total length is 35.5 kilometres, and it is approximately 100 metres in width. Sixteen bridges and locks are built across this canal, as well as many other passages. Ships must be less than 16 m in breadth to pass through some of these.
1977 Dutch train hostage crisis
On May 23, 1977 a train hijacking took place close to Drentsche Aa river bridge at de Punt (in the village of Glimmen) on the provincial border between Groningen and Drenthe, northeastern Netherlands. Nine armed Moluccans pulled the emergency brake around 9 AM and took about 50 people as hostages. The hijacking lasted for 482 hours (20 days); two hostages and six hijackers were killed.
Praedinius Gymnasium
Praedinius Gymnasium is a gymnasium in Groningen, the Netherlands. It dates back to the fourteenth century and is the largest of two non-comprehensive gymnasia in Groningen, the other being Willem Lodewijk Gymnasium.

International School Groningen (ISG) is an international school in Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. The school consists of approximately 130 students from various countries. During their first five years the students follow the IB Middle Years Programme or IBMYP and during their last two years they follow the IB Diploma Programme or IBDP. The school management consists of Mr. M. Weston (Head of School), Ms. J. Eschweiler (Deputy Head - MYP) and Ms. J. Jansma (Deputy Head - DP).
H.N. Werkman College
H.N. Werkman College is a Dutch High School in the city of Groningen. The school is named after the Dutch artist, typographer and printer Hendrik Nicolaas Werkman. The school is divided over four buildings: Centrum, Dalton, Kluiverboom and Vinkenstraat. In 2006 the school had 1352 students and 130 employees. The current rector of the H.N. Werkmancollege is C. Japenga. The school offers the streams vmbo-tl, havo and vwo. It also has a Technasium department.
De Punt fire
On May 9 2008, three Dutch firefighters lost their lives tackling a blaze at a large commercial building situated in a shipyard in the village of De Punt in the Dutch province of Drenthe. The firefighters, Anne Kregel, Raymond Soyer and Egbert Ubels entered the building not knowing that a layer of highly combustible smoke and gas had built up under the roof. This ignited, resulting in a sudden spread of the fire accompanied by a major explosion that resulted in their deaths.
International Wooden Shoe Museum Eelde
The International Wooden Shoe Museum Eelde is a museum in Eelde, the Netherlands, for clogs, clog-making equipment and machinery. It has the largest collection of wooden footwear in the world.
