Tynaarlo
Tynaarlo is a municipality in the northeastern Netherlands. Though located in the province of Drenthe, many of its communities serve as suburbs of the neighbouring city of Groningen, capital of the province of the same name.
Tynaarlo (village)
' is a little village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 9 km north of Assen. It is situated between the three largest villages of the municipality: Zuidlaren, Eelde and Vries. Tynaarlo is located close to the motorway A28, which is a connection to the south and the west of the country. In 2001, the town of Tynaarlo had 1009 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.29 km², and contained 427 residences.
Yde Girl
Yde Girl listen [ ɪdə ] is a bog body found in the Stijfveen peat bog near the village of Yde, Netherlands. She was found on 12 May 1897 and was reputedly uncannily well-preserved when discovered, but by the time the body was turned over to the authorities a fortnight later it had been severely damaged and deteriorated. Carbon-14 tests have indicated that Yde Girl died between 54 BCE and 128 CE at an approximate age of 16 years.
De Punt
De Punt is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo, and lies about 11 km south of Groningen. The statistical area "De Punt", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 240. De Punt was the site for the 1977 Dutch train hostage crisis.
Oudemolen, Drenthe
Oudemolden is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Tynaarlo. Historically, the town of Oude Molen is almost solely owned by the Linthorst Homan family, who has always held close ties with the towns population. The Linthorst Homan family rebuilt the windmill in the 19th century. The statistical area "Oudemolden", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 90.
1977 Dutch train hostage crisis
On May 23, 1977 a train hijacking took place close to Drentsche Aa river bridge at de Punt (in the village of Glimmen) on the provincial border between Groningen and Drenthe, northeastern Netherlands. Nine armed Moluccans pulled the emergency brake around 9 AM and took about 50 people as hostages. The hijacking lasted for 482 hours (20 days); two hostages and six hijackers were killed.
Drentsche Aa National Landscape
The Drentsche Aa National Landscape is a national park located in the Dutch province of Drenthe on the west side of the Hondsrug. It consists of the cultural landscape surrounding the valley of the small river the Drentsche Aa. The landscape is currently in approximately the same as it was in the mid 19th century, as the agricultural landscape reforms of the 20th century were not implemented in this area.
