Our Lady of the Angels School fire

The Our Lady of the Angels School Fire broke out shortly before classes were to be dismissed on December 1, 1958, in the basement at the foot of a stairway in the Our Lady of the Angels School in Chicago, Illinois. The elementary school was operated by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. A total of 92 pupils and 3 nuns eventually lost their lives when smoke, heat, and fire cut off their normal means of escape through corridors and stairways.

Kedzie (Metra)

Kedzie is a Metra commuter railroad station in the Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago. It is served by the Union Pacific/West Line. The station is at North Kedzie Avenue and West Carroll Avenue in an industrial and low-income residential neighborhood. The Chicago Transit Authority's elevated Kedzie station is on West Lake Street, about three blocks to the south. The Garfield Park Conservatory is nearby. No passenger trains stop at Kedzie station on evenings and weekends.

It is named for the Garfield Park Conservatory just outside the station. During construction of the station the Homan historic station house was moved to its current location.

Until 1948, the next station towards the Chicago Loop was Kostner Station. The station is 24 blocks east and 2 blocks north of Harlem.

Kedzie–Homan is a station on the 'L' system, serving the Blue Line's Forest Park branch. The station is located in the median of the Eisenhower Expressway within the East Garfield Park neighborhood and has two entrances on the Kedzie and Homan Avenue overpasses. Kedzie–Homan was named Kedzie until the early 1990s, when the name was changed to Kedzie–Homan. However, signs on the platform still refer to the station as Kedzie.

Pulaski (CTA Blue Line station)

Pulaski is a station on the 'L' system, serving the Blue Line's Forest Park branch. The station is located in the median of the Eisenhower Expressway within the West Garfield Park neighborhood. A long ramp connects the platform to the station house on the Pulaski Road overpass. There was originally a similar entrance from the Keeler Avenue overpass; the entrance from Keeler was closed to cut costs on January 15, 1973, but retained as an exit, and the exit was fully closed on December 28, 1978.

Cicero (CTA Blue Line station)

Cicero is a station on the 'L' system, serving the Blue Line's Forest Park branch. It is the westernmost station situated in the median of the Eisenhower Expressway in the Austin neighborhood. Originally Cicero had an additional entrance at Lavergne Avenue, but this was closed on May 16, 1977, by the CTA as a cost-cutting measure. The structure for this exit still stands but it is closed to the public. This is the last station on the Forest Park branch within the Chicago city limits.

Kostner is a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's 'L' system, serving the Pink Line. Kostner station was originally opened as Kildare Station. During reconstruction in 2003, the station was renamed Kostner because the primary entrance was moved one block west to Kostner Avenue and the Kildare entrance became an auxiliary entrance. Kostner has the lowest ridership of any station on the L, serving only 500 people on an average weekday.

Kostner (CTA Congress Line station)

Kostner is an abandoned rapid transit station in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The station served the Chicago Transit Authority's Congress Line, which is now part of the Blue Line. Kostner was opened on August 5, 1962; it was the only station on the Congress Line which was not opened with the line on June 22, 1958. The station closed on September 2, 1973, due to low ridership.

Homan (CTA Green Line station)

Homan was a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's Green Line. The station was located at Homan Avenue and Lake Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago. Homan was situated east of Pulaski and west of Kedzie. Homan opened in March, 1894 and closed on January 9, 1994 when the Green Line closed for renovations. The station did not reopen with the rest of the Green Line on May 12, 1996.
