Slochteren

Slochteren is a municipality in the northeastern Netherlands. The municipality can be characterized as a chain of small villages dividing a mostly agricultural landscape. Having an agricultural background for at least a thousand years, the community houses for the most part commuters to nearby towns like Hoogezand, Groningen and Delfzijl. Hoogezand

Hoogezand is a village in the municipality Hoogezand-Sappemeer, located in the principality Groningen in northeast Netherlands. The name refers to a higher sanded (Hooge Sandt) place in the peatlands cut through when the Winschoterdiep channel was dug. Near this channel in 1618 the village was founded. In the beginning the town was a center of peat briquettes producing. When the peat ran out opened factories for cardboard and plants for potato processing .

Zuidlaren

Zuidlaren is a village in the province of Drenthe in the Northern Netherlands. Zuidlaren has just over 10,000 inhabitants and is situated on natural heightened land which is called the Hondsrug. The village is part of the municipality of Tynaarlo. Formerly the village had its own municipality called Zuidlaren, but in 1998 Zuidlaren merged with Eelde and Vries. The new municipality was called "Zuidlaren" at first, but was renamed to Tynaarlo in 1999.

Zuidlaardermeer is a lake in the northern part of the Netherlands The lake runs northwards of the village of Zuidlaren and southwards of the city of Hoogezand-Sappemeer and is called Zuidlaardermeer . The lake is largely situated in the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. It was formed 5,000-8,000 years ago. The lake is fed by the river Hunze. This river enters the lake in the south-east and exits the lake in the north.

Laarwoud

Laarwoud is a monumental stronghold in the centre of Zuidlaren, the Netherlands. People also describe Laarwoud as a little castle, in the Netherlands locally known as havezate. The word havezate is used in the Dutch provinces of Drenthe and Overijssel. The building as seen on the picture dates from the beginning of the 17th century. However the founding of the building probably dates back from the Middle Ages. In the 17th century the stronghold was owned by the Van Selbach family.

International Police Caps Collection

The International Police Caps Collection is a permanent exhibition of an international collection of police hats in the former railwaystation of the Slochteren Woldjerspoor in Slochteren.
