The Sambre is a river in northern France and Wallonia, left tributary of the Meuse River. The ancient Romans called the river Sabis.
Sambre-et-Meuse
Sambre-et-Meuse was the name of a département of the First French Empire in present Belgium. It was named after the rivers Sambre and Meuse. Its capital was Namur. The département came into existence in 1795, when the Southern Netherlands were occupied by the French. It was formed from most of the county of Namur and parts of the bishopric of Liège and the duchies of Brabant and Luxembourg.

The Second Battle of the Sambre (November 4, 1918) (which included the Second Battle of Guise and the Battle of Thiérache) was part of the final European Allied offensives of World War I.
Citadel of Namur
The Citadel or Castle of Namur is a fortress in the city of Namur, at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers. It is originally from the Roman era, but has been rebuilt several times. Its current form was designed by Menno van Coehoorn, and improved upon by Vauban after the siege of 1692. It has been classified as a Wallonia's Major Heritage site. The original citadel dates to 937. It achieved its present extent between 1631 and 1675, when the city was under Dutch control.
Siege of Namur (1692)
The Siege of Namur, 25 May–30 June 1692, was a major engagement of the Nine Years' War, and was part of the French grand plan (devised over the winter of 1691–92) to defeat the forces of the Grand Alliance and bring a swift conclusion to the war. Namur, sitting on the confluence of the Meuse and Sambre rivers, was a considerable fortress, and was a significant political and military asset.

Dave Castle
Dave Castle, also known as Fernan-Nuñez Castle (French: Château de Dave, Château Fernan-Nuñez) is a château in the village of Dave, also known as Dave-sur-Meuse, now a part of the city of Namur, Belgium. The château stands on the banks of the Meuse. It was originally a medieval structure, the centre of power of the influential sieurs de Dave, but was ruined in the 17th century, and re-constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries by the Dukes of Fernan-Nuñez, whence the alternative name.
