Whiting, Indiana

Whiting is a city located in the Chicago Metropolitan Area in Lake County, Indiana, which was founded in 1889. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Michigan. It is roughly 16 miles from the Chicago Loop and two miles from Chicago's South Side. Whiting is home to Whiting Refinery, the largest oil refinery in the Midwest. The population was 4,997 at the 2010 census.

Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway

The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, sometimes referred to as the Lake Shore, was a major part of the New York Central Railroad's Water Level Route from Buffalo, NY to Chicago, primarily along the south shore of Lake Erie and across northern Indiana. The line is still a major corridor, split at Cleveland by CSX and Norfolk Southern in 1998, and hosts Amtrak passenger trains.

Calumet College of St. Joseph

Hammond–Whiting (Amtrak station)

Hammond–Whiting is a train station in Hammond, Indiana served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. Currently, the Wolverine is the only Amtrak service that stops at this station. The station also used to serve as the split with the Three Rivers until March 7, 2005 when the Three Rivers was terminated. The station was serviced but is now bypassed by the Capitol Limited and the Lake Shore Limited.

Illinois-Indiana State Line Boundary Marker

The Illinois-Indiana State Line Boundary Marker is a sandstone boundary marker obelisk located near the end of Chicago's Avenue G, just west of the State Line Generating Plant of Hammond, Indiana. Since 1988 it has been 159.359 miles north of the Wabash River. The obelisk was constructed by the Office of the United States Surveyor General ca. 1838.
