Parkes Elvis Festival
The Parkes Elvis Festival is an annual event celebrating the music and the legend of Elvis Presley held in early January in the Australian New South Wales regional town of Parkes. The first festival in 1993 was simply a one night performance attracting 300 attendees. From then, it has grown to become a five day long festival of all things Elvis. The Festival now attracts large numbers that briefly double the population of Parkes.
Northparkes
Northparkes is a copper and gold mine in central New South Wales, Australia, approximately 27 kilometres north-northwest of the town of Parkes. The mine was originally started in 1994 using open pit mining, with underground mining using the block caving method starting in 1997. The mine has an operational capacity to produce five million tonnes of ore per year, containing roughly 60,000 tonnes of copper and 50,000 ounces of gold.
Parkes railway station
Parkes is a railway station on the Broken Hill railway line in the western New South Wales city of Parkes, Australia. The station opened in 1893 and is served by the Indian Pacific and Outback Explorer passenger trains. Parkes is also the junction point of the Stockinbingal–Parkes railway line and the Parkes–Narromine railway line which form a cross country route between Cootamundra on the Main South line and Werris Creek on the Main North line.
