Shirakavan
For the modern village called Shirakavan, see Shirakavan, Armenia. Shirakavan (Armenian: Շիրակավան, also spelled Shirakawan) also known by the name Yerazgavors was a medieval Armenian town that, during the 9th century AD, served as the capital for the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia. The settlement had declined into a small village by the end of the 19th century, and the site (which now lies within Turkish territory) has been partly flooded by the waters of a dam built on the Akhurian River.
1926 Kars earthquake
The 1926 Kars earthquake occurred at 21:59 local time on 22 October. It had a magnitude of 6.0 and a maximum felt intensity of VIII on the Mercalli intensity scale, causing 360 casualties.
